How is being a kind person related to being a good Christian?

Any connection on being a kind person to that of being a Christian? Or is there something else that makes us treat others better other than being a Christian? For those who are non-christians, please feel free to comment.

Given the history of religions and violence, hatred and killing. there is pretty clearly no correlation between organized religion and being a decent human being. This is an individual human trait and crosses all lines of belief and race.

Given the number of destructive wars between and caused by the various religions, yes that is exactly what I am saying. organized religion is more often about political and material power than it is about faith.

Doesn't religion instill goodness in people? Are you saying religion causes more war instead of goodness amongst people?

I do not think there is much of a connection between being kind and beeing Christian. I have met kind and unkind Christians, Muslems, Buhddists, Jews etc. What really surprises me is how many religious people that has no or little tolerance for their fellow humans. For instance Christians should behave differently if they tried to follow the example of Jesus. he condemned noone.

What do you feel you? Are you a Christian? Are you good because of your religion?

I'd say that I have not yet made up my mind what I believe in. I am good because I believe it is the best way to be. Intolerance and cruelty towards people that do not share your religion is the biggest turoff from any religion to me.

Well, almost all religion teach: be a good boy/girl and you will go to heaven. But the goodness and the kindness are something what is related to the human nature, not to the religious beliefs. There are many religious hypocrites who are "kind" just because of obligations of their faith. But this is not sincere.

A good christian cannot be a cruel person because a good christian obeys the ten commandments and is a god fearing person. He automatically becomes a kind person cos' he fears God punishment.

Fearing God is not a proof that you are a good Christian. It is the fact that you follow the Scriptures and do as what is preached is what makes a good Christian. Fear is a way to control those who do not believe enough.

let me congratulate you first of having a 9 star as of date. you deserve it my friend. you just reap the fruit of your hard labor. as to your proposition, may i say that there are a lot of people, differing in religion or beliefs, who are very kind to others. as you see there are muslims, buddhists, or non-christians in general who are also kind. it does not necessarily follow that to be kind one needs to be a follower of Christ, however being kind is one of the fruits of the holy spirit of being a christian as cited in Galatians 5:22. it is expected therefore from our christian brothers and sisters to be kind. reality checks that this does not hold true sometimes as there are rude christians and non-christians alike.

Thank you! This exercise is time consuming but very worth my while as I am getting to meet good people like yourself. I do agree that it is not the religion that binds kindness in people but rather the circumstances on how individuals first got inducted to become christians or any other religion. Kindness is a general term that promotes brotherhood and friendship amongst all people but that is written ALL religion artifacts. Only, mere interpretation of the Holy Books seem to overshadow this friendship but rather tries to fulfill other prophecies such as the extent of how one religion may promote better closeness with GOD and thus forgiveness. Thus, the issue of how Christian or muslims behave hovers around the issue of how one can get closer to GOD but as a result the human connection sometimes is forgotten as we delve more into the process of routinary prayers and worships. We tend to forget we are servants of GOD and we should first treat our fellow man before we can show our true devotion to the LORD our GOD.

Christianity has nothing to do with being kind. I know some Christians who are not so kind people. I am not kind because I am Christian, I am kind because I feel that there is truth to the saying "treat others as you want to be treated.

To be kind does not necessarily mean that one is a Christian or a person of God. However, one cannot be a Christian or be Godly and not be kind to others (most of the times), seeing one of the fruits of the Spirit of God is KINDNESS - please see Galatians 5: 22 - 23.
