I was diagnosed with a chronic sinus infection as a result of a tooth extraction in november 2006. I was steadily on antibiotics (a total of 13 different ones) for over five months. I was finally sent to a specialist who charged me $536.00 to tell me that I had a sinus infection beneath my right eye. For six months I suffered incredible pain. I never even knocked a dent out of the infection with antibiotics. Finally, one day happened to be watching Opra on tv and this doctor she was interviewing mentioned that a simple saline nasal bath daily would do much better for sinus infection than all the drugs being prescribed. I tried it. And had immediate relief. I had to keep on doing it for about a month, and I am now free of all symtoms. (total cost to me was the iodine free salt)
I ended up paying close to $4000.00 for antibiotics, cat scans, office visits, etc.

Yikes! I too, had a tooth extraction that the dentist botched. (I call him "the butcher") He nicked my sinus cavity while cutting out my wisdom tooth that broke when he tried to take it out. Since then, I suffer from an ear infection or pressure every time I get a cold or sinus issue. I had a bad sinus infection two years ago. In desperation, I tried ear candling. The candle is made of beeswax. You can buy it at health food stores. You light it and put it in your ear. The pressure from the lit candle sucks all the nasties from your ear. It was fascinating and gross! The very cool thing was that it also broke up the sinus infection too! I ended up getting some blood with my nasal discharge and heavier discharge for a few hours, and then I felt tremendously better! I could hear again, and all the sinus pain was gone. I highly recommend it.

Hi,
After reading what you said about ear candling, I went and did some research. I found alot of information that said it was very dangerous, and there is nothing to back up the effectiveness of this procedure. Experiments were done by burning the candle without having it in an ear canal. The exact same deposits and debris were there as when the candle was lit while in an ear canal. Many conclusions were that the debris collected on the end of the candle was just simply the remnants of the burnt candle. Also many doctors have reported ruptured ear drums, and severely burnt ear canals. I think I'll refrain from this procedure until I've done even more research. My ears are precious. I don't want to injure them.

I know of some skeptics too. However, I also know how much better I felt afterwards, and how much better I could hear. It seems like regular MD's are very against it, and alternative/holistic doctors are very much for it. I do know, though, that it is dangerous for anyone with diagnosed ear problems. I won't do it on my son with tubes because he has a hole in the eardrum, and the pressure can damage his ear canal. Ear candling is safe for most people, but must be done with extreme caution. Good point! You could have it done by a professional too, who would know if it is safe for you, and the best way to do it.

Wow that is amazing that you found something that works so well that cost so little. Pretty soon I will lose my health insurance and then maybe I will also pick up a bottle of saline nasal spray I think that is the same as the saline nasal bath you are talking about. I cannot afford to pay the price of cipro after my medical insurance runs out so if the saline spray will work just as well then I am all for trying that.

Great tip, Beauce. I've suffered with sinus infections for years. If I can hedge one off by using your method, I will give it a try.
