Since I was 7 years old, I had a dog as a friend and part of my family. I think that owning a dog at a young age teaches a person responsibility. There is nothing better than unconditional love. I have a yellow lab now and she is like a daughter to me. She yelps and jumps at the front as I pull in the driveway. How can you beat that kind of devotion? She even sleeps in my bed at night. I cannot begin to imagine the pain I will fell when she is gone. :(

Thank´s for responding this discussion. I think that´s right. It´s good for children to learn responsibillity of having a pet. But, some children think that if I dont do it, mum will. My son wanted a dog i young age so his father got a dog for him. I was fultime studying and said that I will not have time to take care of a dog. We had an agrement of that I would not have to be charge of the dog. But, of course, I tends to drive the animals to me. The dog came to me every time for food, to go out or anything she wanted. Our son forgot, or did not take care of the animal as i should. So i had to give an ultimatum. I simply could´nt study and take care of a dog at the same time. Thet got one week to showe me to be resonsible. unfortunataly they did not. So the dog had to move.

Well I agree that having a dog is a big commitment, but I think you are imaging it as being much more work than it really is. Most dogs do just fine being left alone while their owner works. It's nice if you can take your dog for several long walks a day, but you don't have to do that or do that every day. A couple of quick trips outside will work just as well. Dogs make great companions. They're loyal & protective of your home & family. Once they are passed the puppy stage, they are clean & usually calm. They love you unconditionally. I can't imagine ever not having a dog.

Well, I do have had dogs as pets. So I know what cind of work it is to take care of dogs. What I wonder is, howe people have the time if you work fultime and also have family. I sold my dog becouse I did not have the time for him. And my children did not help me with him. I know for the fact that he are better of now. But it´s a interesting thing, becouse dogs are the best pets to have if you are about to have one.
Thanks´for responding.
