I have a 2 year old and she just stopped napping. This morning she woke up kind of early. We went outside and played for a while. When we got back in the house a few hours after she woke up, she just layed on the floor and fell alseep. It was like a half hour long. But she usually takes naps in the middle of the day for an hour. I am just so confused. How old were you little ones when they decided to make this change?

Kids are funny little creatures. When they get tired they nap. Sometimes you can get them to lay down and rest but they don't sleep. My kids were around 5 when they stopped napping. If I saw that they needed to rest for a bit, I would have them lay down and relax. That usually did the trick, they relaxed enough to go to sleep.

Personally I dont like giving naps. But my boys NEED them. They are 18 months and 5 months, so obviously the baby needs them for sure! LOL But i would perfer not to give the older one a nap, but with out it he gets soooo tired and cranky and really he likes them, its the only time he is still enough to cuddle with me (we lay down together for a bit in his bed before I leave him to fall asleep.)

My boys napped right up until they started kindergarten. Even if they did not fall asleep, I laid them down in the middle of the day for quiet time. Young children need that rest, not only that but it gave me a chance to do things that I could not because the children were playing and awake. At 2 years old I would think that your child really still needed that afternoon nap, it makes the evenings so much more pleasant, as all of us mothers know the period before dinner and before bathtime can be hectic. It always was in my home, and if the children were rested it was not so tiring and the kids were is no much better moods and more apt to be content when mom is working.

My little ones stopped taking regular naps when they were 3. My youngest is just starting that phase right now. No more early afternoon naps for her. SOmetimes, she'll fall asleep (especially after a BUSY day!) about 3 or 4:00 in the afternoon. Then she'll sleep for at least 1-2 hours. I hate that she waits that long to go to sleep, because she is a bear to get to bed at night. I will admit, she's a much happier baby, though!
Good luck with your little one and still getting her naps!

My daughter hated taking naps, I always had to force her to take her naps when we were home together. She was always trying to get out of it! After she was about 2 or 3 that is when she started really fighting it. She would tire herself out and finally just take a nap on her own. I was ok with that, as long as it wasn't too late in the day and if it was, I didn't let her sleep for long because I didn't want to interrupt her sleep schedule. Nowadays she doesn't nap at all unless she wants to lol!

I have a 2 yr old and he still takes naps, but some days it seems he would rather play then take one. If he don't take one in the afternoon then tends to fall asleep early evening time and be up half the night.
I make him lay down early afternoon to rest because I like my peace and quiet late in the evening after the little ones go to bed.
For my other 2 boys whom are 13 & 16, I believe they were about 3-4 yrs. old when they finally stopped.
If the parents allow them to stop then they will, but you should encourage them to at least lay down and rest for a little bit. It will give you some time to yourself also and be able to accomplish housework, being on myLot, or whatever you enjoy doing without the little ones.
