when you are re-sizing a picture to send by email...how small should it be?

I dont think size of the image matters, it is the file size.
Generally bigger the image higher the file size.
However it is possible to have a big picture but a small size file in which case the image will look bad.
Anyway sending email with pictures to yahoo, hotmail and gmail usually accepts attachments upto 10MB, this could be one file or multiple files but max of 10MB.
Leave some MBs free for the email program to add its own tags this usually pushes the 10mb limit over if you have already added 10 MB of attachment. The tags increases the total size of the attachment, so just leave some MB free.
Simply send the other images with a new email.
