I Lost 2 Inches!!

WOW!! As many of you know, I recently took up an exercise and healthy eating lifestyle, this was the try and remove the weight I piled on after I quit smoking close to 9 months ago. I have to admit that I was getting a little disheartened because I wasn't seeing results. (Yes, I'm impatient LOL!)
Over the weekend, my wonderful partner bought me a Step and a Step Aerobics DVD set that I'd had my eye on. He said that I could use that on the days when the weather is a little temperamental. (Yeah in BC, they say it's going to be sunny and it rains. When they forecast rain, it snows LOL.)
Anywayz, I measured my waist girth at the beginning of last week, and was shocked to find it measured 38 inches. It upset me that I'd allowed myself to get as big as that considering that 9 months ago, I was 28 inches around. Well, I kept up the walking all week, and the healthy eating, and then I measured myself round the waist again yesterday.
People, I've lost a whole 2 inches from round my waist!! When I turn sideways in the mirror too, I can see the difference!!! This is just the thing I needed to keep me going. Seeing the results makes ALL the difference, and I'm more determined now to keep it up. I have a session with the Step and the DVD coming up in an hour, and then this evening, if the rain isn't TOO bad, we're off on one of our walking jaunts.
If you're like me, and you've started up a healthier lifestyle, please keep going. It takes a little time for the results to start to show, but once they do, I promise, you'll feel so much better for it!

Holy moly..congratulations!! I could stand to lose the inches around my waist..and I have to also congratulate you on stopping smoking...I did quit for a total of a whole month..LOL..then I went back to smoking..and I know what you mean about gaining weight when quitting...even though I hadn't quit long I still piled on the pounds...n but now that a lot of the stress factors in my life are gone I plan to re-quit..I think you gave me some inspiration to not only quit again,,....but lose those pounds...so congrats again!!

Lol, quitting smoking is SO hard to do. I still have the odd craving from time to time. I can be doing something and unexpectedly I'll think Damn, I could do with a smoke right now! Instantly, my brain tells me "Oh Wait, you quit ages ago!" *Rolls eyes*
I think you can do whatever you put your mind to. Starting something isn't bad, but finding the motivation to keep going is tough, especially when you don't seem to be seeing any results.
If you decide to quit smoking and lose those pounds too, I want you to know that I'll be right behind you all the way. :o)

I actually did it cold turkey in terms of using NTR. I hated the thought of having to use patches or the gum.
However, I did buy sugar free gum and I chewed that stuff like it was going out of fashion. I found it helped a LOT. Also going for walks or doing chores helps till the initial craving subsides. When a craving hits, do ANYTHING other than think about smoking LOL.
It's hard at first, and the first 10 days are so rough, but it gets easier.

The time I did quit though...the hardest was when I'd have a craving say, during breakfast, after dinner...the worse..talking on the phone...I know you're supposed to do "substitutes" but like what--I can't suck on candies with my blood sugar problem---Did you do it cold turkey or use a patch or chew one of those nicorette gums??

woohoo way to go sweet. thats great. but try to do that a ll very slow, dont lose weight to fast, because thats not a good thing. it keeps coming back then. its better to do it for a long time but not to hungry and lots of sports, than in 3 months.
you are a great strong woman, and im glad it works that good for you. i hope we hear more of your adventure and that sure helps lots of us to do the same. now i have to find out how i can do taht, because i cant walk, and i have to take cortisone. but with that reading from you im sure i can do it in a way to. thank you for the headsup sweet ;-)

Thank you Marlyse.
My partner too has advised me to take it steady and not try to do too much. Thats the thing with exercising. You get into a routine, and once you start to see results, it's easy to make the mistake of thinking that you gotta start pushing to do more.
I'm taking it steady though, and my partner and the kids are being supportive. I overheard my daughter with a friend yesterday evening saying that she wasn't going out to play because she wanted to help momma with her walking to lose weight LOL. I found that incredibly sweet of her.

Wowww, lady (grin), so you really want to get back to being sexy again eh. I'm glad you have seen the fruit of your labor. Sounds like a lot of hard work and perseverance are needed. I'm the opposite of you. I need to gain a little pounds although I'm not considered skinny yet. But its the family genes. All the women in my family lines are not fat nor have any weight problems at all.

Lol charms, you're a funny bunny :o)
I dunno that I was ever sexy, but I'd love to be able to wear a Bikini on the beach this summer without embarrassing the kids LOL.
I used to be like you in that I never put weight on, although while I didn't exercise, I was very active. Unfortunately, the quitting smoking thing screwed that right up lol.

What can I say.. way to go!
The key is in maintaining. It is relatively "easy" to lose weight and reduce your waist length, but it is the maintaining that is tough. So grit your teeth and drill this routine such that it will become your habit.
Then you will be really fit for life. ;-)

I fully intend to maintain it lol. It's amazing how much better I feel knowing that finally I'm working towards a better figure.
I have a horrible horrible photo of myself up on my fridge door. That alone is giving me the motivation to get better.
A friend suggested that I pin up a picture of someone with the kind of body I'd like without being unrealistic. She said that way I'll have something to work towards as well as something I'm working away from.

wow. there are really many here who are doing good and are focused in having a healthier life. that's good to know. and walking is really one good way in slimming down. losing weight isn't like any magic trick that can be done in one day. it takes time but you'll be happy with the results and you'll be proud of yourself, too.

Yeah, I've been surprised with the number of people who have said yes, I want to do this and have started my own routine.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could start like a group or something online to discuss things such as giving tips and giving each other the courage and motivation to keep it up?
That might be something I'd be interested in for sure.

Im curious. I've lost 6 inches in the last few years. (Going for 8, hopefully in not too long.) My weight however has really not gone down that much as I have ended up putting a lot more muscle on, particularly in the lower body.
Are you noticing something similar or are you actually losing pounds as well?

As of yet, I'm not noticing much in terms of weight loss, but then I only started really seriously with this three weeks ago, and I've been gradually cutting down on a lot of things before cutting them right out, so it's only been the last week or so that I've really been taking care of what I eat.
I'm hoping to start losing the pounds too, and so I've been calorie counting too *rolls eyes which is a real pain in the rear LOL.
I'm more concerned with toning as opposed to losing the weight as such. I have a horrible spare tire round the middle that has to go. I just figure that if I tone and watch what I eat, then it's all for the good. If I lose weight I lose weight, if not, then I don't.
I'll keep you posted as I go though for sure.

you are an example to people who want to slim down but have no determination to start it. it's always difficult at the beginning but later on, you'll be pleased with the developments. nothing can be done through magic. it's through one's willingness to strive for things and do it.
just like you, you did it! plus, you are going to continue because you love the results. plus, i bet, it made you feel a lot healthier and more confident, right? so, keep it up and i hope people will be like you, too... determined and willed to do what they wanna do in life.

and even if there are those who are negative and will try to bring your hopes down, don't let them do it to you. think of them as a bunch of people who haven't been successful about something or anything in their lives... and be proud that you are better than them in many ways! take care... anne

Thank you gabs hon.
It's nice to know that I'm not doing this on my own lol. I have the support of my partner, and even my kids lol. Hearing what my daughter said to one of her friends was really the icing on the cake lol.
One of her friends came knocking to see if she wanted to go play. My daughter said "No, I can't. We're going out for a walk, because we want to help mommy get fit and lose weight" LOL.
She's so cute sometimes!

Thank you so much Wendy.
The sore muscles are not quite as sore as they were LOL. The other workout DVD I have almost killed me, but I'm thinking with a little bit of time, I should be good to go with it again lol.
My partner is a real sweetheart. When I first started with the whole fitness thing, we had a bit of a miscommunication, I guess he thought I wasn't really that serious about it, but after his comments reduced me to tears we finally got onto the same page LOL, and he's been extra supportive ever since then.
When he arrived home with the Step and the Step Aerobics DVD I almost cried LOL. It was an unexpected surprise and a VERY nice gesture from him for me. I guess there MAY be an ulterior motive for him LOL, but heck, I'm not complaining!! Haha.
Thanks again!

He's totally the best lol. I once said I'd never marry anyone. I wanted to be an unmarried girl all my life lol, but when I met my partner for the first time when I stepped off the plane in Canada, I knew right away he was "the one" for me.
We've had our problems since then, but working through them has just made us stronger. We're now planning our Wedding for next year :o)

Thanks so much for this tip. I've actually been looking for very lean cuts of meat in the store, because I'm aware that some meats are indeed fatty.
I shall definitely try it though, see if it makes a difference. Thanks again :o)

My partner has been SO wonderful at keeping me going when the going gets tough. I do have my bad days but I try not to slack off, though the weather has been a little fickle, and we're on flood watch right now too.
I shall definitely keep you posted :o)

I understand everything bit of it because I've just stop smoking and I gained every bit of my 5 or so pounds that I did lose when I stopped smoling 2 months ago. I've been thinking about going back but everytime I get myself on that treadmill I change my mind. But I was able to lose that weight plus some and lost about 3 inches and 20lbs. So Congrats and Keep up the GOOD WORK

Woww.. you really are an inspiration!! I've been wanting to lose weight ever since I quit smoking almost a year ago! And it's been so hard. It's not so much of losing weight that I find hard, but the discipline it takes to lose weight. I just can't seem to get myself off my lazy chair and start working out! Day by day I know that I'm gaining weight. I don't wanna wait until I'm too big. I'm afraid by that time, it'll be more difficult to lose. I've got my TaeBo DVD waiting for me. After reading your post, you've finally given me more determination than ever. Thanks a lot~!! =D

Yeah, I know the feeling of wanting to start and not having the motivation lol.
My partner and my children have been so helpful. I couldn't have done it without them.
Now I'm finally seeing the results, it's given me the motivation and the inspiration to really make it happen.
I hope that you too can start to lose weight and feel better about yourself.
Good Luck!

Maybe your body would be better at a different form of exercise. I know it's different for different people.
I got lucky in that I tried walking and it helped, not to mention the workout DVD and the Step and Step Aerobics DVD too, and soon, the Rowing Machine.
I think it takes a combination of different kinds of exercise to really make a difference.

Good for you! I have long wanted to loose weight, i gained a lot eversince I gave birth and stopped working. My friends kept telling me to loose weight as this would make me more attractive and much healthier. I've already started just two weeks ago and hopeful to see results in the coming months for I know results won't show immediately..it's not an overnight thing..but a process..goodluck to us..keep going and reaching for our goals!!

I will say this though. Please don't try to lose weight just because your friends want you to. In order to really succeed, please make sure that you want this too, otherwise, the chances of you succeeding are slim.
On the other hand, we can do this together and be an inspiration to others. I wish you all the best of luck in reaching your goals!
