Have you written a poem about the place where you live?

So today while googling my username thanks to a discussion by a friend of mine here, I stumbled across a poem I wrote about the place where I live. It's not the best poem I've ever written, but it made me think about how my feelings about my town have changed since I wrote it, and about how they have remained the same. Have you written a poem about the place where you live? Did it change how you felt about that place, or did you read it later and realize that your feelings had changed? Oh, in case you want to read my poem, here's a link, but that's not really the point of the discussion. http://www.postpoems.com/cgi-bin/displaypoem.cgi?pid=475090

Thanks for sharing your poem, lecanis. I think it's beautiful expression/description of surrounding and people, touched with fear and inherent love (perhaps). paradoxically, I love the place I hate most; For reasons, unknown; I may know, I don't know; How much I hate to love my place:-) (my idea, a victim of my lack of confidence in english) I have written poems in my teenage for objects, people, feelings and places but not specifically for my own place, strange, isn't it? all that was in my native language. Now all my poetry is for my wife and child, not written though. My wife has written and archived (without telling me), what I have been saying about her and she occasionally read me my own poetic phrases, when we are away:-). Btw, I also read some of your other beautiful poems on the same site. They are all great, thanks again for sharing:-)

Wow, kamran, you really did seem to get what I was saying! It is strange that you didn't write for your own place. Come to think about it, it took being in my current place (which is very different from my previous one) about 6 years before I wrote this poem. For a long time I was afraid of ruining it for myself, and thus didn't put it into words. I'm like that with relationships too sometimes, when they are at their best is when I'm not writing about them. That's a neat story about your wife! Thanks for sharing it! Oh, sneaky, by the way! I didn't think that anyone would read my other poems there. =p

Out of curiousity, which one did you like best? Most people who have read my poetry have a definite favorite, and it's there, so I'm curious as to whether you would choose it too.

yes..I am sneaky:-), specially about friends as I do love to know about them more. Let me admit that I actually read all of them:=P I liked the struggle and hope in "cold", wait of "creepy", and last part of uncertain (it doesn't mean i didn't like other parts). Though "uncertain" probably is not as poetic as "cold" is but I liked it most. It reflects some deep emotions, relationship and feeling. combination of fear, hope and inescapable bond. It seems that you wrote it with depth of your heart but couldn't find words to express, as I feel some unseen frustration about not being able to express. I may be wrong about my observations, so please excuse me and correct me where you find me erroneous. I didn't write about my place probably because of my fear that I may do injustice. I don't want people to get inaccurate image of my place that I may create out of my feelings, deep in myself. Though, ironically poetry IS to express feelings but still i may even do injustice to my feelings too:-) so weird, I am:-)

Why yes I've written a poem or two about were I live. I can't recall any of them completely and have no idea where they may be, but I certainly wrote them. ^.^

I am not good with poems, but I think many poems are written about Chicago. "Come on, oh baba don't you want to go Oh come on, oh baba don't you want to go Back to that same old place Sweet home Chicago" lyrics from "Sweet home Chicago" I don't know any poems about Chicago, but many songs...:)

Damn, you're good, gal. I liked it :E I have never written a poem about the place I live, and unless I'm moving out of this country, I never will. I don't like it here, so it's kinda hard for me to write about it.

Thanks so much! *blushes* I never wrote poems about the place I lived before here, except to say how much it and my experiences there sucked. But I like the place I live now, in certain ways. It's more home to me after 8 years here than anywhere ever has been before, and I think that has to do with a combination of people and place. I'm sorry to hear that you don't like where you are, and I hope that you manage to get out of that place that you don't like!

I've never written a poem about where I live...probably because I don't feel much of an emotional attachment to this town as a place - only a couple of things in it. I wouldn't want the poem to turn out too negative, because I generally don't enjoy angry poetry. I would much rather write a poem about the place that I moved here from, but then I would be afraid that I wouldn't be able to properly convey my feelings about it.
