America, the new Rome?: Achievers of Glory, Inheritors of Destruction

Time is a cyclical entity. Clouds of gas form stars, which burn, then explode to form new ones. The fall of one Empire gives rise to a new one. Since the beginning of time, one small group of men has saught to control the destiny of a larger group of men. I suppose this is the natural order of things. Unfortunately, this only leads to complete destruction in the long run. In the beginning, it was easy. The oldest, most experienced hunter set the rules. He provided meat, so he knew best. The cycles of animals, and wind, and rain became his primers. With them, he led his small bands in the empty wilderness. This worked for 390,000 years. The cycles of birth, expansion, decay, and death ruled all. Then around 10,000 years ago, we began to plant. The advent of agriculture changed the cycles. Now, man had the luxury of time to think. With time, came philosopy and government. Small bands gave rise to villages. Villages to cities. Cities to empires. Around 7,000 years ago, the Sumerians founded the first cities. With this rapid expansion, came the need for a method of control. The rulers that were, began to find organized religion. Gods and myths were born. Texts were filled with conjecture and lies. The Torah, Bible, and Koran are all examples of these texts. The idea of an all powerful, yet invisible being is absurd. The idea of said being working with the "Emperor", "Pharoah", "King", or "President", is the ultimate hubris. Now the cycles of birth, growth, decay, and death were joined by deceit and betrayal by the few over the many were added. All the ancient empires, Sumer, Egypt, Assyria, and Persia rose and fell to the rhthym of these cycles. By the time of the Roman Empire, man was well versed in how to oppress his fellow man. The similarities between the American Empire, and the Roman Empire are so similar, it would be folly not to try and learn from our forebears. As I will show, the lives of both the Roman and the American empires, have followed the same political path. From inception, through expansion, and ultimately following the same destructive path into the void. Both Rome and the United States were made from refugees. The first romans were the survivors of Illium(Troy) By 700 B.C.E they were settled in Central Italy which was under Etruscan control. The Romans fought a war of Independence from their Etruscan masters. The Roman Republic was born. America was made from European refugees in the 18th century. We settled on the east coast of a large group of Native American empires. We fought a war of Independence from Great Britain. The American Republic began. Between the 6th and 1st centuries B.C.E, the Latins, Greeks, Persians, and Jews all bowed to Roman might, Rome had conquered the known world. For some mysterious reason, by the time of Julius Caesar, the peoples of the vast Roman Empire gave control of such a large poulation to one man. The will of the people, and the will of the government were forever divorced. Between 1609 and the present day, The American Indians, Spanish, German, Japanese, and now Iraqis have all felt American military might. We have conquered the known world, our influence is felt everywhere on the planet. The interests of the American people and the United States government don't even know each other. Just like our ancestors in ancient Italy. By the time of Augustus' founding of the Empire, Rome began to decay. War, disease, and famine took its toll on the apethic populace. Roman superiority was the only law. The territories of the empire were drained of money, and men, all with the blessing of the god mongers. Words and Laws were meaningless with all the corruption in the government. The people looked to their leaders for guidance, all they got was death. Even after Alaric sacked Rome in 410 A.D., Rome continued to decline. By 476, when Odoacer deposed the last Western Roman Emperor, there was nothing left and the Dark Ages began. Since the end of WWII, the American Empire is stuck in a case of "We won the war, now what?" Since 1945, America has pressed its morality on the rest of the world. Korea, Cuba, Vietnam, Granada, Panama, Iraq, and Afghanistan are all unjustified wars. They were and are wars of Empire. George W. Bush is just as much a murderous pig as Julius Caesar. Bush hides behind lies and profit for his wars...just like Caesar. The American people are shackled in the lie of Democracy just like the Romans. Rome took just over 1,000 years to live, conquer, expand, and die. How long do y'all think it will take us?

Wow you really have done your research and wrote this long just to say how bad is your president. :D I would say nicely done and i am impressed and read it to the last paragraph since i find it interesting reading such. i am not from your country but i d think that your country is indeed a very powerful country to contend to right now. i just hope that you would continue policing the world since I can never imagine if its not your country that rules like if Germany or iraq were allowed to rule this world I would not like to know how our world would look like.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN! Apparently you haven't noticed the historic fact that when the US has conquered another country we leave it in the hands of the government... in other words, we aren't an empire and never haven't been one since "manifest destiny".

Good, Ted, glad you had that great big yawn and sent lots of oxygen to your brain, seems needed! An empire in a Republic's clothing is an empire nonetheless. When we depart a conquered nation, we frequently leave behind tools of extraordinary intimidation, like military bases and nuclear missle silos. Ostensibly for the protection of those people from the evil empires, it doesn't take a genius to understand they could be turned against the local population with the change of a few aiming coordinates. Most of the world has lived with regional war and the changing fortunes of various despots for thousands of years, and its citizens would be able to quickly recognise a covert threat that would never occur to an average American.... like you, Ted.

All that "white man's burdon" must be tiring for both of you. Tell me again how slavery needs to be repaid and everyone living in America today is personally responsible for taking land from the Native Americans. While you're at it, why don't you go on about how Prs. Bush personally planned and executed the attacks of 9/11 and steered Hurricane Katrina to only the poor neighborhoods of New Orleans.

You're either truly ignorant or truly American. "Manifest Destiny" is when our empire began. The Spanish-American war in 1898, World Wars I & II (although I understood WWII as a justified war if you read my article.), Korea, Vietnam, and every war we have fought since has been an Imperical endeavour. After reading your profile, I have come to realize that you are so deep in denial, you can't see daylight. You have been fooled. America is the new Rome.

Well, if anybody wants to start betting pool, putme down for $50 on 233 1/2 years, plus or minus a couple months. Somebody smart once said, those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Can't remember who, maybe George Washington... or was that George Carlin? Nicely done!
