was thinking about this just a few days ago, obvioulsy the easy part is getting referrals but its getting referrals that are going to remain active that is the tricky part. And i came up with this Alot of people are using paid to surf and paid to click programs etc to try and gain referrals, and why they might be sucessful in gaining one or two signups the problem is that the people using these sites are there for the same reason as you, they are only there to find referrals for thier own sites, so even if they do sign up the chances of them being and remaining active are minimal So left me thinking about who would be the best audience to target, and the answer is so simple i was a little mad at myself for not putting for thought into it earlier. So who did i come up with? Writers of course The target audience are people that will not just join for the sake of earning a few dollars ( although that is definatly a nice bonus ) but they will also remain active as they are doing something they already love. Writers and freelance writers are always looking for more opportunitys to craft thier skill and earn a lil extra money on the side so i decided to test this theory and go find my audience I searched for a list of writers forums and websites, and freelance writing boards and decided to post there. The result? I have in the past 2 days aquired 20 new active referrals and not just one or two posts, these are people that are embracing the site aqs much as i am and you are, as it is a medium to do something they love. I am still getting email responses from my post and ads on writing sites with people wanting more information, and i find that jsut sending them directly to my lot to learn about this great site for themselves is the easiest way it really does sell itself. So anyways i just thought i would share this tip for people looking to gain some referrals, i would love to hear more of your thoughts and the stratagies that have worked for you.

I tried to target this audience and it didn't work. I admit I should have put more effort into it but with my full-time job, who has time? Regardless, if it has worked so well for you I will give it another try. So far though my referrals are doing a good enough job. But, we can always have more referrals right? I'm glad it's worked so well for you....goodluck.

That was a great idea of yours! In my experience I have 133 referrals and almost 90% of them are inactive members. Some just sign-up and do nothing. I dunno the reason, maybe they register out of curiosity only. I may give your idea a try.
