what are the first three things that come to your mind when Singapore is mentioned? I'd like to find out more about your impressions of the country, and perhaps comment on them!

The first three things that come to mind are: shopping, singapore crab dishes, and oriental flowers. These are the first things that came to my mind, even though I have never been to Singapore. Squaretile, how do you see Singapore - can you enlighten me on something about Singapore that would surprise me.

80% of Singaporeans owning their own home is excellent. Housing affordability is very important for the quality of life. By oriental flowers I mean firstly Singapore Orchids and secondly I always think of oriental lillies when I think of Singapore even though they might not be native to Singapore.

what kinds of flowers are oriental, just out of curiousity? personally, i think one surprising fact is that more than 80% of singaporeans own their homes. there is a successful public housing scheme that enables singaporeans to do that. and the homes are well kept and resemble condominiums esp the newer ones.

well, off the top of my head... MONEY EXPENSIVE ROUTINE after typing the above, I am surprise at my own thoughts actually. Well, everything we do, everywhere we go, it is money. Have you tried going out of your home for a whole day without spending any money? To get to the nearest center for window shopping, we have to take a feeder bus to get there... that is money. Expensive... look at the ridiculous prices people are paying for a roof over their head and a set of wheels to travel around. The ever increasing cost of living, education, commuting... even entertainment! Routine... well most days it is wake up, work, shopping, chores, sleep... and the cycle repeats. Putting some effort to think about it, there are also good things to say about Singapore as well. It is SAFE, CLEAN and ORGANIZED.

tell me about it! the frenzied buying sparked by the impending GST hike and fueled by the GSS is scary! The throngs of shoppers every weekend, and some even on week days are so many, it is almost impossible to navigate around the various aisles to shop for anything. I am amazed that people are still able to grab so many things. And the endless queues... my gawd!! People are queuing and buying like there is no tomorrow! It is really frightening! 8p

When i think of Singapore first think of its equatorial climate, which is warm and humid all year round.Rain is felt throughout second thing is its cleanliness. govt. is very particular about cleanliness of its city.

that's true - I won't say it's the economy hub of the whole world. it's nothing like london or new york or tokyo. it's quite expensive to own housing and cars, but food is very cheap. Each meal about USD $2.
