would you queue at length for a favourite dish?

in Singapore, queuing for a popular dish is not uncommon. some people have queued hours for donuts.
However, what is your threshold for queuing for a particular dish?
I wouldn't mind queueing half an hour for famous char kuay teow. Queuing for an hour is my maximum threshold. Unless I went prepared to wait, I'd be too hungry after half an hour to enjoy the food.
I've seen queues of about 30-45 mins for peanut soup with rice balls (ah-balling). is it worth it to queue so long for a dish that can be consumed in 15 mins? if time is money, queueing so long for a $2 dish is hardly worth it?

My threshold would be in the region of 10 minutes. Usually my lunch breaks are not that long so I try not to waste time queuing for food stalls with high traffic. I'd guess that at the end of the day, I might just find that it's not that worth it after all. But if I really had the time and it's a dish that I've been salivating for the whole morning, then I might jump onto the bandwagon and ride it out.

HI squaretile, i can queue for certain things but i cannot queue for any dish be it my favourite or anything. when i am hungry, i am hungry. i cannot wait for my dish to come after 45 minutes or an hour, till then i will fall down of hunger. when i am hungry i step in any of my fav. restaurants and order something that can come fast or if that is not possible, i prefer going to Mac Donald's. its better to pick a burger from them and eat it. they dont even take much time and they are having so many outlets in our area that if one is crowded one can go to the other.
i can queue for bus, for library, for entry in a train , for buying any thing, in a temple for worshipping............................. i can queue for anything but not for eating. because when i am hugry , i wannasomething , i have no stamina to stand in a queue to wait for my turn and then eat, before thast i will fall down and then people standing near by or in the same queue have to break their queue and help me.LOL.

haha! that's funny. well, maybe the trick is to start queuing before you are hungry. esp if it's a famous stall, then go there early. :)

If a dish is in demand and liked by many, one has to wait in queueto taste it.But waiting in queue for a long time to get a thing wich is a vry small in quantity and quality, it is better to fogo such things. There may beotionsto get the same dish in a different place at a higher cost. All depends upon the need and circumstances, that decided to wait in a long queueor not.

I seldom queue for anything, especially food. I guess I am just not picky at food and I can't be bother to queue up forever to try the dishes. I would rather wait till the rave is over or go to the restaurant at odd hours when there is less people. I think it's a waste of my time to wait for 45 minutes when I could just eat at some less special restaurant with that 45 minutes. I just don't see the point and I'd love to put my time into better use.

I'm super impatient. 15 minutes is the maximum time I'd queue if I have nothing to do. But if I'm really bored, really need to try the food, and am allowed to sit, I'll queue for as much time as the stuff on my hands allows, like if the yarn I'm knitting runs out or I finish reading my book.

i haven't seen someone standing in a queue and knitting yet! that'd be a great way to pass time.

That depends. I will usually try not to queue too long for food. Especially if I have to stand in a queue to do that.
Most times, the food where people are queuing for hours for is not worth that kind of time and effort.
Take the donuts for example... it is just donuts. What makes them so special? It is just fried dough coated with some topping like chocolate or coconut... yet you see people queuing for hours, tolerating the rude workers who are trying to pack as many donuts into boxes as they can, and paying a premium for them.
I am always curious... but never tried those donuts before. Got better things to do with my time than to wait in queue for donuts.
As for other good foods... in restaurants, usually I don't mind waiting for up to half an hour. Cos we get to sit down and chit chat with each other while waiting, so that is more bearable. One good example is the Crabs at Still Road.
Like you said, queuing for hours to eat a $2 dish is hardly worth the time and effort.
