'Sleeping is very important to us. Luckily i can always sleep well most of the time, i seldom wake up during the night and i will feel energetic the next day.I may wake up and go to the toilet once during the night but i will fall sleep again soon. And i am like a pig which i will be woken up by any noise except the alarm.' How many hours do you sleep every night on average??Do you always wake up to go to toilet? Or eat some food because of hunger? For me,I will make sure I am full before i go to sleep:P Will you be woken up by noise easily? What kind of noise usually wake you up? Will you stay awake then after woken up by the noise?? What make you cannot sleep one night? Or do you suffer from long term insomnia??What do you do if you cannot fall sleep one night? Do share your thoughts:)

Yes I too sleep well in night only. At day time I never sleep even on Sunday. My sleeping timing is 1030pm to 500am. This is sufficient for me. I wake up once at night say around 2-3 am daily then within minutes I go in deep sleep again. Frist 3 hours of sleep is deep and remaining is not so say like dog sleep. This schedule is for all the days monday to sundary. No changes in it.

Ya Easy, You are right, I wake up at around 2-3am for toilet only. You will observe that when we are released, we feel more comfortable. So we all must do this. Some people do not give break up in between.

A regular sleeping habit is healthy and you can always feel fresh the next day. Some people may be comfortable with 6 hours sound sleep and their body can rest fully during their sleep. You mean you wake up to go to the toilet around 2-3 am at night?

i have insomnia. it is an illness i have had for as long as i can remember. i am lucky if i manage to have a straight 4 hours sleep in the evening. usually, i wake up feeling sick. for me, it is normal to wake up on a new day with a backache and a headache which are truly exruciating. this is normal for me if i do not get at least 6 hours of sleep in hte evening. i also wake up at the slightest disturbance. it is good to see one who can sleep like a log. how i wish i can, too, one of these days.

Have you seen the doctor or taken any medication. Is your illness arises psychologically or physically?? Anyway,I think medication should be the last resort or you will reply on it when times go by,you will not be able to sleep without the sleeping pills,it is a vicious cycle. Hope you will be ok.

This topic really spoke to me. I have to wake up at 7am every working day by the way. Here's my scenario: 1. Go online till I feel sleepy (say 2-3am) try to sleep the moment i land my head on the pillow, hardly works. In the morning I struggle to wake up. 2. Plan to sleep early, say 10pm, roll around the bed for 2-3hrs before I actually fell asleep, struggle to wake up in the morning. 3. Felt tired about 9-ish, finally manage to go to bed at ard 10-ish, struggle to wake up in the morning again! 4. On a non working day, do online stuff till 3-4am, go to bed (no problem at all), woke up FRESH at 9am. I'm so pissed at my sleep routine!

You are sharing a room with your dormmates?? Can you stay in a single room so that you will not be affected by the noises from them anymore. Be relaxed and do not think too much before you go to bed, just leave the stuff for tomorrow the next day. Do not worry too much.

i stayed in a dormitory, too for three years when i was in college. even if my dormmates always come in and out of our room, i can still sleep again quick. but i still hate it when they wake me up by knocking because they left their keys inside our room. i hate going up and opening the door for them especially if i am in the middle of a beautiful dream.

Maryannesmax, you should have asked them to leave their keys under the carpet when you were sleeping inside so that they would not disturb your wonderful dreams.

I definitely do not always sleep well and it takes its toll on me. Lately I have been sleeping much better and feel much better in the mornings. Sometimes I wake up during the middle of the night but end up going back to sleep again and sleeping better. I am a light sleeper most of the time but sometimes nothing can wake me up. I rarely need to use the restroom during the middle of the night. If I can not sleep sometimes I go on the computer or watch tv or just toss and turn til I fall asleep.

True,it may be better to read books or watch TV so that you will feel tired and fall asleep easily,it is not good to roll around the bed and wait until you fall asleep.

It has been so long since I have had a great night sleep and felf completely refreshed the next morning. I seldom have difficulty getting up in the morning, but I don't think I feel really refreshed. I don't have trouble falling asleep but do wake up usually once or twice at night. But getting a totally restful sleep seems like a dream to me.

For the most part I sleep pretty well- When I am extremely wiped out- I don't sleep as well-I wake up almost every night to use the bathroom- it drives me crazy! I even go before bed- but I still wake up- Alot of noises wake me up- thunder- the cat gagging- snoring at times- bad dreams- alarm clock... I usually get 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Sometimes more on the weekends-

I do sleep well though I tend to wakeup a number of times during the night to check my children. What is important is that I get enough number of hours sleeping. I very rarely feel groggy or tired during in the morning and it's usually because I didn't get enough sleep and stayed late doing mylot. LOL!

I don't have any specific timing for sleep. Mostly I go to bed after one in the night and get up around six in the morning. Either by ten in the morning or two in the afternoon I will go for a two hour nap. Since I sleep in day time a ring of the door bell or any such noice could wake me up. However I am not disturbed by it. I developed these habbits since my retirement three years ago. Other wise I was a disciplined sleeper from 11 PM to 5 AM. No day time naps. Now I want to spent more time in the internet so I changed my habbits. Before one year when I got a game cd from my fried I continously played for more than 24 hours. In short I am regularly irregular with my sleep matters. Thank you easy.

Hi,easy888. I'm actually quite a bad sleeper, have been for as long as I can remember. I am quite a light sleeper and awaken quite easily from just about any noise, and don't always get back to sleep real easy. I go to the toilet usually just the once, and often I'm awake well before I need to go. I also find, ironically, that the closer the morning it gets, the easier it to go to sleep! All this may explain why I'm such a grumpy morning person, and it usually takes to about lunchtime before I feel my happy jovial self again!

Hello easy888, getting enough sleep is the best way to stay healthy and energetic. I do have insomnia. The way I deal with it is to force myself to sleep. It doesnt always work but at least I can lie down and relax myself. Sometimes if I cannot sleep I will do some reading or surfing the internet. But when I do get to sleep, I wont be awaken even if there are loud noise.

If you try to force yourself to sleep and roll around the bed for few hours,it may be even worse and you will be more tired the next day. It is better to go to bed only when you are tired. For me,if i cannot sleep one night,i will have a hot water bath, then i will drink a hot milk and massage on my forehand and two sides of my eyes,it works for me,most of the time,i will fall asleep soon.

For years I had dealt with horrible insominia to the point that everytime I visited my doctor he would prescibe a sleeping medicine. I hate to take medicine as is and it would always make me feel so groggy in the mornings that most times I would suffer through the endless nights of not sleeping. But surprisingly, when I met my boyfriend I sleep like a baby when he is next to me, unsure why, but I always sleep so well when I sleep next to him. Most times I am woken up to my cat wanting to be feed early in the morning, not that he is terribly hungry since he gets feed many times during the day but that he wants me to up to be with him and feeding is something he thinks that I need to do. Have a great day Easy!!!

May be you had a lot worries when you went to bed before you met your boyfriend,he just helped you to clear all the worries so that you can sleep well.

I have hard time sleeping. I have to take sleeping pill to go to sleep and I wake around 4 hours later. I cannot be woken up during those 4 hours. After that my sleep is sporatic and I can be woken easily by noise or bathroom duty. It has been this way for about 2 years now. Doctors are baffled.

Hello easy. I have a very erratic sleeping schedule. No specific time really. I have this bad habit of exhausting my whole mind and body before hitting the bed. It doesn't matter if its 12 midnight or near dawn. I'm literally a night owl and not really a morning bunny. I may need to adjust myself to sleeping a little early again. My girls will begin another school year next week. For this, I need to rouse myself from the bed at 5 in the morning and do all the necessary preparation. "groan"

"Another groan" I guess I better get a hammer and bang my head so I can sleep early, LOL! I do most of my work during night time. With my girls yelling like Tarzan everyday, how can I concentrate on my work. "loud groan"

I sleep on average 4 to 5 hours tops a day. I work night shift , so daytime sleeping can be noisy. Everything wakes me, from lawn mowers, dogs barking, to people that call during the day... ALL DAY !! I never feel refreshed nor rested. I work all night and have children. This makes getting any kind of "normal" amount of sleep next to impossible. I do wake up to use the bathroom as well. It takes me at least 2 hours to relax after I get home from work before I can sleep, and if I am woken up, it takes me a while to fall back asleep too. I am sleep deprived !! Thanks for reminding me..lol.

Oh,i can understand your situation,I think your shift will be rotated regularly and you should have been working at the day shift as well. Your sleeping cycle is not regular as you sleep at the day sometimes and sleep at night if you are back to the day shift. Working on the nightshift is extra tired and you may still be awake when you get back home, also just like you say, there may be much noises at the day time which will affect your sleeping. May be you can pulg your ear and cover your eyes so that you can sleep better.

I usually rest quite well.....I rarely get up through the night for toileting...but rather to walk through the house and check on all of the children....I have done this for almost 30 years.....I just want to make sure they are fine and covered.... I usually get a drink during the night and keep a insulated cup of ice and Pepsi beside my bed.... On the occasions when I can not rest...there is usually something plaguing my mind...such as a problem occurring with one of my grown children..... I do not personal suffer from insomnia...but my husband has for all of the 20 years we have been together... I usually sleep...6-8 hours a night and that provides me with a sufficient amount of rest...and re-energizing..LOl

Lately, I've been finding myself trying to go to sleep earlier in an attempt to get 7 hours of sleep, but I find that my sleep is not very restful as of late. So, I'll stay awake for a couple more hours and try to get 4-5 and I'll feel better then when I slept 7. My dreams have been utter non-sense too...no rhyme nor reason. The weird thing about it, I'll get up 5 min before the alarm, even though I change the wake up time every day...some days its 4 am, others its 7 am. I can't figure that one out either. I like to think I'm a light sleeper, but in reality, I'm all over the place. Certain sounds don't bother me, while others make me jump. The phone being a prime example. Fortunately, nobody calls so thats not a problem. I can sleep with the TV or stereo on, but if someone in another room turns one on even quietly, I'm wide awake. I think it has to do with knowing whats on and it gets to my curiosity. As for actually getting up in the night, rarely do I go to the bathroom; however, on occasion, I'll get thirsty and have some water and never have I gone for a snack after going to bed. Getting to bed is the easy part unless there is something I'm troubled with; however, I've been known to try to fall asleep, then 10 min later rush to the table/desk and start writing or figuring out some problem. Normally, I'm spot on in "my" solution. I wrote a 10 page college paper once doing that and it only required some minor grammatical changes after final review. Now, I do have a problem going to bed after someone is already sleeping. Either I get frisky, or I listen to their breathing and just can't get to bed. So, I usually try to get to bed first. Then I don't get blamed for keeping the missus up;-)

It seems so. But I just couldn't get myself to do an experiment where I didn't use the alarm clock. I used to have an electric alarm clock that would begin to emit a very quite buzz about 15 min before going off. I know that when you sleep, your senses (hearing) is more acute so the inaudible daytime noise is actually quite load. I'm wondering if the current clock is giving off some sort of signal? I'll have to try unplugging it over a weekend.
