Personally, I feel that John Lennon had the best solo career. I would say that his solo works are comparable to his work with the Beatles. Although, I like some of the other members' solo works (not very much), I would say that the other member's solo efforts were sub par in comparison to their work with the Beatles.

I've found that I pretty much prefer Paul's work to John's. Not to say that John was not a great musician, just my taste runs more to Paul's type of music.
So, having said that, John pulled back from the world and just as he was coming out he was murdered.
Finacially, it is Paul and Ringo making the most bucks. Paul and John having the most popularity. John and George for lyrical depth and Paul and George for musical depth.
So, that makes it 3 out of 4 for Paul....

i can still remember how the world mourned when john was murdered. it was such a bad time to have done it. john lennon was coming back from hibernation and the world was so warm about his being around again. well, we just can't tell about the derangement that people suffer from from time to time. i can still remember that they said that his music when played on the reverse gave such bad message. music is not meant to be played that way anyway. we are not dealing with palindromes everyday. GOD becomes DOG if played in the reverse. no wonder good words becomes bad at times if read in hte reverse.

That narrows it down to the 2, Lennon- McCartney.
Well I think I would say that Paul had a longer career so he was able to release more songs....are the songs better? We all know they had a different style of writing even though all their songs were "Lennon- McCartney" it was usually one or the other that came up with the lyrics and then it was fine tuned.
I prefer Paul over John just because I grew up listening to his songs with "WINGS" and I went to his last concert In Detroit.
John was a poet, an artist all around.......his music was very "deep" having had a rough childhood. I love John's music....who knows If I would have had the chance to grow up with it that could have changed my decision.
All in all, it was a magic combination of talent, character .....charm
The Fab Four....the one , the only.

except for ringo starr, all the members of the beatles were doing good. i don't why it went that way with ringo starr. maybe he is not so good at composing and singing solo. i can still remember taht he used to be the best drummer for the time that the beatles was around. everyone was amazed at how he dealt with those gadgets. no one else was as good as he was right there.
i tend to agree with you though that it was indeed john lennon who did best after the break up of hte group. everybody used to say that john lennon was the most talented one among them all. he proved this point when he kept on superbly with his works after the beatles went each one his own way.

wasn't Ringo at one point in the 70's breifly the best selling ex-Beatle? I seem to remember reading that in Record Collector or somewhere.

I think that Lennon was probably the favored Beatle for artistic reasons, most definitely. Paul was sort of brainless and more about having a good time.
George of course had some incredible records. Wonderwall, for example, which Oasis used as the title of their song.
So, in order, I choose:
1. Lennon
2. George
3. Paul
4. Yoko Ono
5. Ringo
I chose Yoko Ono over Ringo, even though she was not a member of the Beatles.

Ringo of course! I mean the guy is Thomas the Tank Engine, how can you top that? You can't.
On a more serious note, it's probably John but I think George's solo work is often overlooked.

I would like to say George, because he was my favourite, but it depends on the definition of "best". Finiacially speaking, it would have to be Paul. Although I do believe that John would have been the most financially successful, had he been given the chance.

Kudos to the great John Lenon. Only a few steps behind will be Paul McCartney

Hey, Paul McCartney also had a really good solo career. John Lennon is good too, but unfortunately, he has passed.

Paul was definitely the most successful having #1 hits just about every year all the way until 1984. George produced the final #1 hit of the 4 in 1987. Ringo had 2 #1 hits in the 70's. However, John's songs are my favorite.

I think, Lennon is the best..
He's a legend.
He is controversial..
He's insane and bigmouth..
He has such a strong character in his songs..
Well, He had sent a lot of social message in his songs..
and world replies his message by calling him hero..
The working class hero!!
(But I'm not saying that McCartney, Harisson and Star are not good..)
What do you think?

I think John Lennon had the best solo career. Although Paul McCartney has probably been more successful in the long run, because Lennon has not been around. Lennon's music was definately better. I only like one of McCartney's solo albums and even then, not much.
