Disgusted by Flip Flops?

Is there anyone else out there who hates flip flops as much as I do? For one, I hate feet. For two, I think Flip Flops make people wearing them look sloppy and finally I find both the Flip and the Flop equally annoying. I know flip flops are popular and comfortable and whatever, but I probably haven't worn a pair in at least 20 years or so.

Hey, No don't say that, I'm a big fan of Flip Flops. I have them in all colors. But to wear them you have to have a very very clean toes and a nice looking feet.

I do feel that you have to have nice looking feet, though I hate feet so much I don't think there is such a thing. I hate this time of year because everyone whips out the flip flops! I'm sure I'm a minority though, no worries.

I have to disagree with you on this subject. I love love love my flip flops. I have about 10 pair in different colors and styles. I don't like them when people wear without painting their toenails. I paint my nails and throw on my flip flops and am ready to go.

There are certain times that my nails will match my flip flops. If I am wearing the pink ones or red ones. I don't like to paint them blue or black, so they don't really match the exact color, but they never clash with the flip flop color:)

It's like matching the purse and the shoes? I'd probably do that if I wore flip flops. Even if I had neon green flip flops, I'd do my nails the same...ok probably not.

I think everyone is going to disagree! Do you ever paint your nails the same color as your flip flops?

I love flip-flops, but my hubby won't wear them. The only thing I don't like about them is when people smack them against the bottom of their feet when their walking. I like to get the soft soled ones or ones that are covered with suede or a soft material. They don't make that smacking noise then.

I like your hubby! I also like that you're anti the smacking thing. There's this girl I work with who walks really fast and wears flip flops all the time and no matter what they constantly smack on her feet and make soooo much noise!

Ok, I am so with you on this. I can't stand flip-flops. In fact I never wear them and it drives me crazy how popular they are. For me, I find them uncomfortable. They are always causing some sort of "rub" that results in a blister. Also I live in an Urban area and walk ALOT. These shoes offer no supposrt and I find they make me feet really sore. I agree with you on how they look a bit "ultra-casual". No matter how many sequins or ribbons you put on it, it's still flip-flop. It's so odd how some people think they are ok to wear to the office. And lastly, to end my little rant, I'll talk about something I call, " the flip-flop zombie walk". I've noticed that many people who wear flip-flops forgo the flip and the flop...and instead do this weird shuffle/flip thing. When I am walkingbehind somone who is going that...I must pass them. Sorry for the rant. Isn't it werid what can become a pet peeve for someone ;-)

Yeah, I was a little worried about being a dissenting voice, but I was so glad to see this discussion and know that I wasn't the only one who is anit flip-flop ;-)

I'm glad to her someone who completely agrees with me! Seriously! exactly what you said is how I feel. I have one co-worker who has this pair of flip flops that I swear everytime I see them from the side I think she's wearing slippers to work! Oh and the other one does the "Flip-flop zombie walk" as you say! it's ridiculous! I actually loathe the first semi-warm day after winter when I know there are going to be people wearing flip flops!

I don't like flip flops either. I don't like feet and I cringe if someone puts their feet on me. I think you have to have pretty toes and I really don't care for any toes. My feet go sideways when I walk in them and people step on the backs of them. If I ever do wear them, my husband mimicks the sound when I walk to pester me. Oi.:)

The worst thing is when people know you hate feet so they insist on putting the feet on you! my ex-boyfriend used to do that. He used to wiggle his toes in my face and make the toe sound. gross!

Yay! Someone else who shares my disgust of feet and flip flops! Toes are so weird looking, I think that's the worst part of feet!

Wow, this is an old discussion suddenly revived. Anyway, I felt compelled to agree with everything you say about flip-flops. I've never worn them, and can't stand them. Around the pool or on the beach are perhaps the only places I can bear to see people wearing them.

You're totally right. It was super old and revived. I was surprised. I'm glad you also hate them. I loathe them. If I could make laws, I would banish them!

i don't hate flip flops as long as they're worn for appropriate ocassions/places. eversince the flip flops became popular, i've seen some officemates coming to the work wearing them. this just annoys me! it's really very unappropriate. i'd understand if we were working at a beach resort. but not in a corporate setting!

and by the way, i don't care if they are havaianas or the really expensive flip flops. they're just not appropriate for wearing at work!

yeah there's one girl in particular at my work who wears flip flops. If she's having a "bad hair day" she'll wear a hat too. THAT also really bugs me.

I really feel that the flip flop craze has gotten out of hand. They are fine for the beach or around a swimming pool But for everyday wear, I find them to be actually a bit dangerous. They can easily cause one to trip and fall. Driving in them is particularly dangerous too. I know that most will disagree and say that they love them. That is fine. Different strokes for different folks!

Definitely. I think they're pretty bad for most everyday use too. It's dangerous to have your feet that exposed...who knows what could cut you or jump out and bite you!

The best thing about flip flops is they are cheap enough I can buy a couple of different styles and colours for the kids, but the absolute best thing about them is the kids don't need to wear socks with them. I swear my kids eat their socks, I must buy them at least 30 pairs each every year, and I still run around in the morning trying to find them a pair.

Ha Ha. I guess that is true too. Sometimes socks aren't that expensive either. and they hide feet!

I wear flip flops a lot, mostly for the convienience. They're easy to slip on, especially if you're in a hurry and they're great for those warm summer days when you just don't feel like putting on a pair of socks and tennish shoes. I don't think they make someone look sloppy unless their overall apperance is sloppy. If someone is wearing really raggity clothing that's rather dirty and what not, throw in a pair of flip flops and it makes them look worse. I think if you're well kept though, flip flops don't make a person look bad.

i don't know. I think it's the whole outfit, I do agree. But maybe my idea of a sloppy outfit isn't pretty either. I mean I don't know there's a girl at my job who will wear a skirt, like a nice dress skirt, with flip flops. to me, that's sloppy because they don't go. they aren't "nice" flip flops either.

I don't mind what people wear on their feet. none of my business really. although I do find Uggs and Crocs a bit ugly.

I don't hate flipflops per se because I do wear mine at home when I do some gardening or walk around the village. I'm not very comfortable though of wearing them everywhere especially in semi-formal to formal places or occasions as I see others do. What I hate about flipflops, however, is the huge amount of attention and wasteful extravagance that they generate. Take the Havaianas rage. My goodness, it is unthinkable for me to even pay P100 for an ordinary-looking slipper, I feel like having a heart attack if I have to spend P500 or more for a pair! THAT is wicked! I also hate it when some people brag about their flipflop collections as if they own the greatest treasures on earth. It makes me angry how much money is wasted on those footwear that will only be worn what, twice a year at most? (I'm talking about the wife of one rapper/actor who has more than 200 Havaianas). Just think how many malnourished children and poor families can be fed with all that money! So much for my rants. Didn't mean to offend anybody. I just wish that people think twice about where their money goes. After all, when we die, we can't bring material things with us to the grave.

exactly my point! i don't care if they're the most expensive pair of flip flops in the whole world, wear them where/when it's appropriate.

Wow I don't even think I've heard of this rage! I hope I never know anyone who is into that stuff! I think wearing flip flops around your house or even at the beach is perfectly ok. It's definitely going out on the town or something that i hate. I actually used to go out to bars with a friend of mine who already looked young (we were 23ish at the time and she looked only 16) and she'd wear short mini skirts and flip flops and I swear... everyone thought she was only like 15 years old! It's nice to look young, but not THAT young especially at clubs. I always thought it was the way she dressed. There's a time and a place for flip flops... and most places aren't the place!

I'm not a big fan of flip flops either. I consider them an 'at home' shoe; I don't really wear them in public. To me, most flip flops have boring and limited designs (always so colorful and summer-oriented). They also feel unstable on my feet most of the time; I'm afraid of falling out of my flip flops or catching some rocks or glass from the street under my feet. I don't really like looking at feet either, and although the exposure of feet allows people to display their wild toe nail polish designs, in some cases, people's feet smell and they don't realize it. In the case of an extremely hot day or a day hanging out at the beach, though, I'll wear flip flops without complaints.

So nice to hear! I think that's my thing. Flip Flops are fine for the beach, for your home maybe even a quick trip to the mall or something. Going out on the town or going to work...Totally not flip flops! I dread the warmer weather days when people wear flip flops!

I wear flip-flops mostly around the house in the summer and slippers in the winter. I have never worn cowboy boots, but admire the lifestyle. Furry slippers? My granddaughter has some Dora like that.

i agree with you. I used to love flip flops. I mean I never go to the mall without buying one of those overly expensive flip flops they sell in the market. But after awhile, when you see people buying it and just wearing it everywhere, it just get disgusting. Now that im a lot older, i do not think those slippers are fashion statement anymore. I make it a point that i wear closed shoes or sandals or classy slippers. It makes me feel that people take you more seriously that way. and u dont look sloppy and they do not make your feet dirty. =)

I'm glad more people agree with me! I was all worried at first as people were defending their flip flops. I mean, I never wear "open feet" shoes as I call them, because I hate feet. But yeah.. flip flops are just too sloppy for me.

I happen to like flip flops and I dont see anything sloppy about them. I don't know why they are such an ordeal to some people as they have been worn for years and it just seems like such a natural way of wearing some form of protection on your feet and yet not having to have on heavy, bulky shoes.

I think sometimes they're so thin and get so dirty. The noise is also just not fun. I think my biggest problem is that in my job (I work in an office) we have a casual dress code and there are a few who feel flip flops are appropriate. Flip Flops are fine for a hot summer day of walking on the beach or your back yard, but not in a casual office environment where you're confined to hearing the flip and the flop constantly throughout the day!

I have a pair of flip flops that I wear when I'm running to the laundry room in our building, or need to take the trash outside. Normally, though, I don't like to wear them, because they rip up the skin between my big toe and next toe. They really aren't all that comfortable, if you ask me, but they are convenient.

Wearing them for chores is good. I'd rather wear comfortable shoes than convenient shoes anyday!
