Women are the important part of our society. But for the sake of modernization, she offered herself to be disrespected and to lose her pride, as a sister, mother or wife. Women have been instrumental to raise men from dust to top. But now a days under the disguise of equal rights, she is misused and often disrespected. Islam gives women due respect and protect her from indecency and holds women with sheer honor.Though only practicing Muslims may be represented as role model.

I like to be respected, but I like to be respected for who I am. I like to make my own decisions, dress the way I want to, live with my own honor code, and essentially not be told what to do by others. I feel that I have a lot of respect from the people around me, men and women both, for being intelligent, outspoken, compassionate, and resilient.
My understanding of Islam is imperfect, but from my understanding I would not have the freedom to be who I am in that religion. If other women are truly happy under Islam's restrictions, then I'm happy for them. But I also know that there are some wonderfully brave women that are fighting against those restrictions, and I have a lot of respect for them for standing up for what they want.

now, let's not get into too much heat fighting over our beliefs, we're all different. i'm a bi as well, and i am a Catholic, but if muslims perceive their women as that, let them be; true, they may be happy that way. i know too that i won't be happy if i were in their position (imagine how hot it would be being all covered up and all), it's just that we were raised differently and our beliefs are not the same. i think we made our points here, let's not bash one another because of this.

I guess it wouldn't bother me if I didn't that there are unhappy women there that try to speak out and change things, and it usually just gets them killed. I have a friend that is a very nice Muslim man, and even he says that he sees the harm these traditions have caused on women he knows.

Respect cannot be demanded. It is our choice whether we maintain our self-respect or discard it. Maintaining our self respect means to think, speak and act according to our original values of peace, love and happiness. According to the Moslem prophet 'The rights of women are sacred' and women should be respected.

Women do not need to be protected from indecency, they need to be treated as the equals they are. They should have equal rights with men and an equal say in society. They should be treated no different then men. They are more than mothers, sisters, or wives. To marginalize them is to dishonour them.

i agree, it is hurtful for a woman to be looked down or be stereotyped to the usual roles. makes us feel that we are nothing more than these predetermined roles. of course, i think it is a woman's nature to like the pampering and protection, which woman wouldn't like that? but we are more than fragile figures, we can be strong too, we can stand up for ourselves. yes, we may need protection, but we would really appreciate respect.

I do not think modernization is the reason which causes women to be treated distespected.Women have the different ability from men because of the physiological structure ,so they play a different roles from men. In this condition,we can not call the different roles are not equal rights. In other condition,it is social culture that lead to women suffered a lot from disrespect. The Musilims is a good example.Therefor in order to solve the problem,we need to vuild an equel atmosphere between women and men ,and women shuld be more self-respect and more independent.

Islam's respect of women is detailed in this article. It also asks why there is not more concern shown in the west.
