Circumcision is the procedure that cuts some or all of the foreskin (prepuce) from the penXs. The frenulum may also be cut away at the same time, in a procedure called a frenectomy. The word "circumcision" comes from Latin circum (meaning "around") and caedere (meaning "to cut").
Please feel free to share your thoughts on this issues.

I would of had it done if I was strong enough to have my son go through the process. In Samoa most boys are circumsized and I didn't want my son being teased (and they can get very cruel when it comes to things like this) however, I got very emotional and couldn't do it. I always make sure my son cleans himself properly everyday so as not to get an infection.

Unfortunately my husband was not with me when my son was born, and the midwife/doctor advised if I wanted him to be circumsized then I had to have it done within the first five days of being born. I was an emotional wreck and could not go through with it even after talking with my husband on the phone about it. I cried and cried.
I also have heard some horror stories about not being circumsized so I just figured if he keeps himself clean then he should be fine. He is four now and has not had any issues at all :) In the future if he decides to then he can, I have heard of family members getting it done when they turned 9 or 10 and even 21.

Oh man I know what you mean when you are speaking of the emotional part. With my 1st husband, he was set on getting his son Reuben done for me I didn't mind either way but he wanted it done. He had gotten me to take our son in and I was a mess I still hate to think about that day. With my hubby now he took my 3 boys in which was a lot easier for me to deal with I didn't mind doing the after care but the tears and fears of what I was doing to my son was Strong!!!!! This was one of the main reasons why I was upset to find I was expecting another boy all I could think about is how I have to go through this process all over again

We had our son's done but our doctor explained to us very clearly the dangers and why people do it for example social issues and due to relgion, but said it was no way in a medical matter. We did ours due to social resons because here most boys/guys do have it done.

In my country it in our culture that young boys would undergo circumcision. An uncircumcised boy in the neighborhood would be a laughing stock of his friends. It is just a part of growing up and the start of manhood for the boys. I would have my son circumcised when he reached the right age.

I think it's completely wrong to have this done unless required for medical reasons. Sometimes it can become tight and cause problems, requiring circumcision as a remedial prcedure, but doing it just for the sake of it is WRONG.
If it wasn't supposed to be there, we wouldn't have one!

If it was suppose to be there, then why did Jesus have himself circumcised? The bible explains everything right there in print.
But other then being a religious thing to some, it is in FACT healthier for baby boys to be circumcised.
I mean, it's extra skin that isn't needed and is removed to keep infections away. The foreskin is full of germs that is hard to keep clean, even if you are the most cleanest person in the world. And it's not all done because of this reason, there are other reasons involving health, if you do your research you can read up on it.
Also, if you have a mole/wart the size of a dime, you are going to have it removed right? So what is the difference. Like you said, "If it wasn't supposed to be there, we wouldn't have one!" Well, I think that is a poor excuse.

My father never allowed my brothers to be circumcised when they were born. He didn't believe that it was necessary. Several of my brothers got made fun of in school because theirs looked different then the other little boys. I had one brother who got a serious infection that could have been avoid had he just been circumcised. If I ever have a little boy I will have him circumcised just so he doesn't have to get made fun of at school. Children go through enough these days without having to be made fun of because of that.

I think it is a horrible barbaric practice. I wish I had stood my ground with my hubby and never gotten my son done.
I was too stressed at that time to fight. My son was 3 months early and he was almost ready to come home after 7 weeks in the hospital - this was one of the last things that needed dealing with.
I had all the power too!! The hospital he was at only allows the mother to sign this consent form!

I have had all four of my boys circumcised and will also have this fifth son circumcised. I did it because in my mind it helps cut back on infections. That is what the pedi. told me anyways. My hubby didn't have one done until he was 17 or 18 I believe.

I had my son done and it was horrible. My friend went in with him and I stood outside the door. I felt horrible. I took him home and he was laying on my husbands stomach. He left for work and I took my son and layed him on my stomach as he was still sleeping. I had to do something and picked him up. His outfit was covered in blood. I freaked out and took off his outfit and diaper. He was bleeding pretty bad. I rushed him back to the doctor in tears. I was a mess. They calmed me down and said.."its okay it happens....."what this happens" Ahhhhh
At the time I didn't know how much blood a baby could loose. The doctor put clotting pads on him and told me to come back in 1/2 hr. I went to visit my friend who worked in the transcription office and burst into tears again. She went back to the office with me and my poor baby was still bleeding so he had to go to urgent care to have the ring taken off and be sewn up. So my experience was horrible.
But: My friend who works in the transcription office writes many many reports on men that have to be circumcised when older because of problems. So Its hard to decide weather it is right or wrong.

Thats awful and I bet the most scariest thing you ever went through ...I am so sorry you had to experience this in that way. When I had my son done, When I went to change his diaper I noticed something was right. I to took him back in and showed the lady who wanted to see and she replies "has it always looked this way?" I said No this happened here in the office. So she grabs the doctor for me and he tells me they used a smaller clamp than what they should have used which caused extra skin on the one side that stands out. I then asked how will this will affect him when he's older, but he went on to telling me as he gets bigger the skin will push back and it wont be noticeable. My son is 6 and it is still very noticeable. I just hope this doesn't affect his self esteem.

The thought of having a part of my child's genitals sliced off makes me want to vomit!
