The Hobbit Movie

Since the release of the last Lord of The Rings movie there has been a buzz about making a motion picture based on The Hobbit. I have been searching the net for more news about that but have not been able t find any reliable information. Anyone knows anything about this?

There is an ongoing online petition for Peter Jackson to make The Hobbit.Naturally, I signed up and I fervently hope it would soon be released.
