As I sit here pondering what to write, my heart is breaking. I don't want to verbally talk to my friends for fear of breaking down. We have been having a very serious issue's going on with my grandson. He is ADHD, and he has had some very serious outbursts recently. He was in the hospital twice so far. He was out of control to the point of throwing everything including knives at me & his sisters, while my daughter was at work. Also To the point we have had the police at our house. He is only 10 years old. This last time CPS has gotten involved, and now they want my daughter to sign custody away to the county, so they can place him. They will take him no matter what this week.. We belive that the 2nd med that the Doctor put him on is the cause of his new behavior. He was fine on the Strattera, then the Doctor put him on.. Oh i can't remember the name. It starts with a "D" Anyway it can cause many mood altering side effects. We don't want him to go. We don't feel it will be good for him, Anybody have any idea how to stop these people? He was supposed to have an evaluation before he went, and now they are switching it up. They will do it like 2 weeks after he gets there. Plus he will miss the last few weeks of school. He will be devistated by leaving his friends, and school before the end of the school year.

I am sorry to hear of your problems Irish,The only sure way I know of to stop cps from taking the child ,is to go to court and tell them you are having him evaluated and that he would be better off at home.
you will need to get the doctors report and show that his mother and dad are doing all they can,but with the police involved in the last altercation,it may be difficult.
Be sure to talk to a lawyer(as much as I hate them, this may be the only way),and get thier views.
Keep a stiff upper lip.you can get through this.
Blessed Be.

We will get through it one way or another. Monday we have a 3 hour intake day. This will determine if he comes home, or stays where he is. Wish us luck.

Medicines can have different effects on different people. I can truly sympathize with you. My grandson was diagnosed very early in life as being ADHD and ODD(Oppositional Defiant Disorder) he was a night mare. At age six they put him on Ritalin. While he was on it he beat me black and blue with the handle to the skimmer net for the pool. His Mother called his doctor who put him in the hospital ( It was a lock up ward) She told us that Ritalin does a good job in 75% of the patients but in around 25 % it acts just the opposite to what it is supposed to do. They kept him in hospital doing tests to find a medicine that would work. Well he has been on so many medicines that I can't begin to name them all. He is now 20 and was recently diagnosed as being Bi-polar. he is still a problem child. It has been a life long battle trying to get this kid sorted out. Good luck with yours. My advice to you would be to always get a second opinion.

I did a very quick search about ADHD--the medicine wasn't Dexedrine was it??---this is supposedly one of the popular medications to give children with this problem...and it's a stimulant and no wonder it would cause worse effects--Isn't there any way you can argue the fact that he's having worse behavioral problems due to this medication and get him back on the one that wasn't so bad...is there anyway you can just plain stop the medication period??
Damn doctors anyway...they throw medications to a person without really knowing what will happen...or understand the full side effects
Out of curiosity I was looking up what natural cures can be beneficial and I came up with this...believe it or not it suggests of all things fish oils that you can get in capsules

Try even Valerian which is a herb known with mild sedative effects...but it could calm him down
