Does anyone have great plants to recommend for shadey areas? Can anyone think of plants that come back even when their planted in a pot?

Hmmm... the prettiest shade loving plants I can think of are annuals (impatiens, begonias), so they won't come back on their own next year... they really add some beautiful colourful flowers to a shady area though.

They can survive in sun, but tuberous begonias really thrive in shady locations, and most impatiens will be happy anywhere.

Yes, they are pretty. I always thought they needed sun though.

Hostas are nice and Sedum does well in the shade. The best thing to do is to ask where you buy your plants. They will have ones that will do well in your area.

I have several plants that prefer more sun in a bed that doesn't get a lot of sun. My favorites are white Ginger lilies. The smell so sweet!

Tammy - thanks I'll have to look for them at the nursery. I'm unfamiliar with them.

Impatiens and flowering begonias are my suggestion. Ground orchids also flower in shade to some extent.
