Do Cats Have Rights?

A few years ago, my daughter and I heard strange sounds coming from under our mobile home. At first we thought it was a bird calling, but finally we decided it was the sound of kittens crying. I called someone from the Yellow Pages to rescue the kittens, but he refused. He said he'd done it before and it was too hard. So I decided to try. I soon found out what he meant! Under my mobile home, you pull yourself forward by your elbows and back by your toes, among spider webs and old broken bottles. At first I thought they were rats, but I soon saw they were kittens. Their tiny bodies seemed to throb with life, as I gently picked them up and dropped them into a net I had brought with me. Where had they come from? Probably from one of the many cats that were dropped off and abandoned in our park. We fed them from eye droppers and tiny bottles. Today, they are two gorgeous adult cats that are a part of our family. They relate to us because they were caught young enough to be socialized. But what of those that aren't socialized and become feral. Some say the answer is to catch them and "put them to sleep." What more merciful solutions are there to help this beautiful creature peacefully coexist with human society?
