How long do you wait before marking a best response?

There are discussions and discussion. Some get one or two answers and then keep quiet. So I understand there's when people don't mark a best reponse. Others get plenty of posts in the first three days and some more within the first week, and then they go quiet, too. Wouldn't this be the time for the owner to read again the whole thread and make his decision about what best reponse to choose?
Why are there so many unresolved discussions? Are there good arguments for it or is it because the owner let them pass into oblivion? How long do you wait before marking a best response? Do you have many unresolved discussion of weeks ago? Just want to know! :)

Ill mark the best responses after there were enough responses that in my think it was enough to choose who have the best responses for my discussion.
not all of discussion that I've started choose the best response if the reponse are not good in idea or quality

I usually wait a few days. For me, that's usually enough time for the initial responses to die down to a trickle and allow me to choose a Best Response.
On the odd occasion that my discussions are still getting a good number of responses after the first few days, I may wait a little while before marking Best response.
However, I don't wait too long, I like to make sure I'm up to date with my unresolved discussions.

usually i mark the best response when i have read 4-5 good answers...and if its taking time then i simply mark the best one...which is nearest to concept..

I usually wait about a week or so. If the discussion only has 1 response I'll wait a little longer. I sometimes have discussions that don't get any responses though :(

I don't usually wait for too long before I mark the best response. As long as I like the response and I agree to it, then that is already the best.I'm disappointed too if i have started a discussion and only few people respond to it.And if they do, I would also respond and then they stop.No more...Hopw we can have a lot of discussions together.

I beg your pardon, I only asked without making any suggestion, because I've no experience and need to hear what's usual and good style in myLot. When dealing with things I know a little bit more about, then I make a suggestion, otherwise I think its better to listen first.

It all depends on the discussion and the answers. I usually wait a while because if I respond on the first couple of days with a best answer there might be a better answer and I cannot delete the first. There are some which I have not given a best response because frankly they are all so good. And there are others in which the responses do not have that best response look. I look for those that have something logical to say, no rants or raves.

If I read a very good reply, then I will just mark the best response. If I have received lots of replies, then I will read them carefully and after a few days, I will decide who wins the best response. I like to mark the best response. As it's a kind of appreciation to anyone who responses to me. I just won't give any best responses when nobody answers my discussion.
