Let down by online shopping. Have you been a victim too?

Apart from mylot, I do a bit of freelance writing and I had been saving up my money to buy something nice. I came across a radio controlled airplane model on a reputed online shopping site and I immediately thought that it would make a good gift for my 6 year old nephew, who has a fascination for planes. Now, this model was not exactly cheap ($95), but I just imagined by nephew's expression of joy on receiving it from me, and that just prompted me to go ahead and buy it. After some delays, it finally got delivered to me today, but I was shocked to find that the model was totally different from what was advertised on the site. The size, the color, the features.. just about everything was different, and inferior at that. I dashed off a complaint immediately and I have received a lame reply, that they will look into it. Have you had bad experiences when shopping online? My parents never shop online and they believe that seeing is believing and they only shop in regular stores. After this experience, I feel that they are right. I would appreciate your thoughts on this issue. Many thanks,
Peace and God bless,

Very few feelings come close to the feeling that you get after you realize that you have been conned into making a dumb deal! It can be very discouraging, but one has to move on and make sure not to repeat the mistakes. I have now learned a lot about how to be a smarter shopper online. There are great deals to be found out there, but one needs to exercise caution to avoid being suckered.
Thanks for your thoughts. I'll take your recommendation on amazon too. Hope I have better shopping experiences out there. Thanks again,
Cheers and God bless,

I have not had anything bad happen that I did not earn. The few mistakes I have made have not been large and the learning was invaluable. So I shop regularly on line and find alot of deals. Good thing since money is often at issue with me. Good luck in your future purchases. Just a note 95 was too much since I had seem some like that for alot less.

Yeah, I also think that I might have overpaid, but I did a check and found out that if the model has all the features that it promises, it would be a pretty fair deal, but then, that is the question, whether the final model that is delivered to me will have all the features promised or not. I have taken a firm stance and have asked for a refund if they cannot ship me the model with all the features that have been promised. I hope to get my money's worth. Having said that, I have learned many lessons on how to go about online shopping. I hope to use them to my advantage in the future. Many thanks for your thoughts.

Yes, yes and yes, many times. I have found that when you are out shopping and should you find a model plane (for instance) that you would like to buy for your nephew always get the name and model and buy that route instead of depending on the website for accuracy. I always buy brand names that I know are dependable and accurate to the description. I am a huge eBayer and found out early on you cannot depend on pictures to be accurate as to what the item is upon receiving it.

Honestly, it happens from time to time, but for me its been a rarity. The risk always exists, but the online shopping world opens up so many doors for things you will NEVER see on your corner retail store.
Its like love--- just from being burnt in one relationship doesn't make all guys/gals not worth trying out....
