Real topics

I've noticed that very trivial topics become extremely popular on here. But topics with substance about things that are important (like what's going on in the world) get very little to no response. Why? Do you prefer to respond to trivial matters because it's easier?
I just wonder why people don't respond to topics that should have responses. Topics that relate to important events in the world - not to the last time you saw a penny on the ground.

I agree. I am new and haven't posted much yet. I have noticed that as well.

I think that those topics represent a risk even in an anonymous community like this one. People are afraid of what their new MyLot friends might think of them, and also afraid of the minus on their ratings. I agree with you, I have been wondering the same thing.
