On man....this used to happen in my office all the time. My previous boss used to liek to leave fruit in her office....for days. One day, totally fed up, my office mate and I went in there and cleaned stuff out. once we got rid on any old food, and unwashed cups she had hanging around, things were much better.
I would suggues checking that there is no food hanging around, make sure trash cans were emptied and also check out ay plants or flowers you may have around. If they are rotting they could attract fruit flies.
Thankfully I don't think they have a very long life, so if you can figure out what is attracting them and get rid of it...they will hopfully be gone by the next morning.

I agree, if it is rotten fruit or a garbage that needs to be emptied, they pretty much go away once you throw it out. I used to work with a slob who would 'forget' to wash his dishes or toss out old food, it sucks that other people have to be irritated by the resulting smells and bugs.

yeah, we were horrified about what we found in her office...we felt bad about going in there and throwing out stuff without permission, but it was a health hazard!

The next morning? That soon huh? Well, I certainly hope so. My co-worker and I keep swatting our arms around trying to get them. Yuck!

You can hang sticky tape or fly traps around your desk... they're attracted to the bright yellow tape. Or, if it's fruit flies, find the plant that they're coming from! Those little buggers don't usually become a problem unless they're infesting a plant that hasn't been cared for properly... good luck!

A plant huh? That's brilliant. I might just start checking all the office plants. I have this terrible feeling that someone left some food in their office and now the rest of us are paying for it.

I get those a lot in the spring. I think they're called whitefly or something like that and look a lot like fruit flies. They like the mold in the potted houseplants's soil. Someone may be watering the plants too much or there isn't enough ventilation to help the soil dry after watering.

Actually, not whitefly. It's definitely some kind of gnat, though.
