Here are some possibile answers:
1. A lot of successful people are successful because their entire focus is on ONE thing-succeeding. They don't have or make time for much of anything else-let alone anyone else.
2. A lot of those successful people work very hard at what they do; and they also have their own children to worry about. They may figure it is not their responsibility to "mentor" someone else's child.
3. Many of them may not know how to go about it. Perhaps, some education would help remedy that. Get the word out into the community and/or maybe host an event that would bring some of the at risk youth and the potential mentors together.

I do not think that a person has to enroll into any special type of association to be a positive role model for today's youth....
Many of us do this on a daily basis and never think about who is noticing...or what we might have missed out on because we took the time to share with someone else's child....
I am the proud mother of 4 children...29, 27, 26, and 5 years of age....I am also the grandmother of 7 grandchildren...12,8,7,6,5,3,1 yrs. of age.....all of them have friends that I have been actively involved with....many of these children think of me as their second mom......I have listened to them when they had nobody else to talk to....I have fed them when they were hungry....I have given them a bed when they had no-where else to go....I have helped them read, learn math, discussed life, and many other things.....
I feel that everyday I help at least one person.....
Destinedtosucceed, I also want to welcome you to myLot...this is a great forum community and I hope that you enjoy the time that you spend here and make lots of friends...since we have members from around the world ...there are many insightful things to be learned and shared here....have fun and again, WELCOME....
