ok guys, i think all of us know what im talking about. our president, has this really weird habit of changing the dates of the holiday and i dont really undertsands why she is doing it!!!i think that she is changing the essence of the holiday.;0
imagine, if my birthday was moved to the day before or after it, then i would feel really bad and it would feel different.:P
so, what about you? what can you say about the president changing the dates of the holiday?

good day, forf me GMA is not a good president, she is a damn president,i agree w/ you, in terms of economic growth she is good in handling situiations but she puts our country in the biggest shame, because when she is the bpresident our country became the most corrupt, and our country became worst.

hi there! ;0
yes, you are so right, GMA is so not a good president! aside from the fact that she was a big cheater during the past past election, she is also a plundering and conniving president. i hope that she will be hit by karma because here in davao city, a lot of people have lost their trust in her and they are already excited for the end of her term. ;0

I know what you're talking about. Our president moves the day to celebrate some holidays, maybe to give us a long vacation if we're working, lol! Seriously, when I was working with my previous company I use to feel happy for it. I can spend much time with my family but I also wonder like you did. It seems that the real essence of that holiday were not much appreciated anymore.

nothing has been changed with regards to the dates of the holidays. the dates are still the same dates just like before. it's the celebration that is moved to another date. we still recognize June 12 as the independence day but we will celebrate or commemorate it earlier this year on a monday to allow people make use of their weekends. instead of coming back to work on monday, for example, people will have to extend their day-off on that day and will return to work on the next day which happens to be the real holiday itself. people in this way can better save their time, money and effort. please read response #2.

I always hate it when GMA moves the holiday into a Friday or a Monday. Last year, we had laboratory classes during Mondays and Fridays. We always miss our classes because holidays are moved. My professor reschedules our lab and put it on Saturdays. Saturday is the day I usually spend with my family and friends. The essence of the holiday is gone when it is moved. There is one holiday that GMA did not move. That holiday also fell on a Tuesday. It was May 1, labor day. Gloria did not have the guts to move it because of the activists that celebrate it on May 1. Regarding June 12, 1898, I don't think it is our REAL Independence Day. July 4, 1945 is our REAL Independence Day. The day when Americans left our country in ruins.

Every person have their own style specially if they have the power like the President i think the intention is ggod considering that it has advantages and disadvntages too, for me its good since i will not wake up early for work and not to accompany my children to school. I will be having more time for family and to fix some things here in our home and have relaxation. But as far as i know the activties for the Independence day will be celebrated on the saem day June 12. Let us just enjoy it . OK.

I believe that she did not changed the dates but she changed the day it was considered a holiday. Independence day is still June 12 but they declared the holiday on the 11th since its pretty awkward to have the holiday on the 12th because it fell on Tuesday. Imagine working on Monday then the next day holiday then on Wedsnesday working back again. If you would declare it on Monday then Saturday Sunday is no working days so its pretty convenient for the workers to relax since its a longer holiday. for Business transactions too its much smoother to work straight than there is sandwich dates in between holidays. So in essence the celebration of public holidays are made more convenient both to the government and private sector and holidays would not interfere the regular days.

In USA we have had some "observed days" changed to Mondays in order to give people a 3 day week-end holiday. I guess it's not that the Holiday its self has been changed, just the observation day of it was changed in order to give people an extra day of work off for a long week-end. It makes it a nice long short vacation for the workers here! LOL

the president didn't change the date of independence day. she just moved its celebration. I agree with rbnstr. and I think its just to be considerate with employees by making the working days convenient especially to those who work far from home. I actually prefer it that way. so I can have a long vacation and I don't have to go home monday and then back at work again on wednesday. the travel is tiring and expensive.
and holidays and birthdays are different. almost every holidays are holidays, I mean no classes and work. but on birthdays, its all regular work and class day.^__^

i agree with gloria too! i like it that way because she considers the people's welfares, especially the employees. it is easier to work on a whole week straight than having holidays being sandwiched. some employees also tend to be lazy and absent themselves instead of going to work. i think she can change and move the dates for the holidays but she will still celebrate events on the day itself.
