Do you tithe often?

I'm just curious. There are a lot of people who don't believe that you "have" to tithe. My family and I do, but how many people tithe and at what percentage do you tithe? It's customary to tithe 10% of your income.

I don't believe in tithing.I just felt that i have an obligation to explain or show to you that tithing is wrong.Tithing is an obligation commanded by God to the twelve tribes of Israel. One of these tribe is the Levites, which is the equivalent of the priest today, that is their sole work to attend and do religious chores for the Israelites. Now the eleven tribes have different trades or occupation, naturally the Levites is left with no other occupation, and so God commanded them to give the 10% of their earnings to the Levites. This days that is not honored in Israel, and also Jesus taught that the old is replaced by the new, including that tithing which is absurd and obsolete.Besides the priest or other religious people are not descendants of the Levites and we don't know if what they teach is for God or for their stomach.Remember that Jesus taught the apostles to work for their living and spread the good news for free and if possible fed the hungry."Freely you receive, freely you give."

First off, you shouldn't feel "obligated" to explain or show me anything darlin'. And the statement "tithing is wrong" is simply your opinion. It's obvious by my discussion I don't think tithing is "wrong."
Read 2 Corinthians 9:7 -- "Every man according to his purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."
Secondly, your opinions are just that, I suppose. Opinions. But to sit here and tell someone of Christian faith that something in the bible is "wrong." Well, that's just plain ol' blasphemy.
Other than that, giving 10% of your income to the church simply allows the church to continue teaching and preaching to all of us. I know there are churches out there where the Pastor gets some of that money. To me, that's wrong. God calls men and women to preach. People don't do it as a career. They do it (should do it) as God's work. And I don't know about you, but our church has regular "Family Nights" where once a month, we all get together and have a small dinner and fellowship. Where does that food come from? Tithes. Our church provides the meat and condiments (if needed) and people of the church bring side dishes.
And what about Julie's house across town. It burned to the ground last week, and she's no where to go, nothing to wear, and her children could very well starve. The church hands her a love offering. Where does that money come from? Tithes.
In the olden days, you would have sat in a church with paper fans fanning your face until your arm cramped! But, today? Churches have electricity and air conditioners. Tithes again. Every year at Christmas, the church adopts a family so the children can have a memorable Christmas where otherwise it would be just another day. Tithes. Oh, and we'll not even get into the cost of putting on a Christmas play so our youngsters can learn the true meaning of Christmas.
I could go on and on about the great things churches do or could do with tithe money. This is why tithing shouldn't be done out of obligation or "law." That's not what this thread was about. It's about giving a cheerful gift unto your church. Period. Call it tithing. Call it giving. Call it a gift of love. Call it tax-deductable. Call it whatever you want. It goes to fund the church, church programs, and help the needy.

There's no reason for me to be angry. If it's your belief that tithing is wrong, so be it. Who am I to say it's wrong? Only God can. I believe God wants us to tithe. You believe he doesn't. *shrugs* Personally? I'd rather tithe and be wrong. Than not tithe and be wrong.

I know from experience that you receive more blessings when you tithe. My husband and I stopped going to church regularly, and when we started back, we didn't tithe at all. Things went... so far down hill that nearly 2 years later, we're still trying to catch back up. But, now? Things are really starting to look up again. =)
