Recommendations for a new refrigerator

Well, seems I have the worst luck with refrigerators. About five years ago I had a Frigidare and the compressor went out. It was only six years old. Now I have a GE for the past five years and the compressor is going out on it as well. I know it is a matter of time and it will just stop on me. I think it is a good idea to think and plan ahead for the purchase. Any ideas for the best refrigerator on the market that is at a good price? I notice the prices for refrigerators has really gone done. This isn't as important to me as a refrigerator that will last for a while. I hate the thought of filling the landfill with another appliance! Thanks for your help.

I think thats about a life span of a fridge. Hotpoints are good and cheap. Also look into place that take used and broken appliances. One they use them for parts and two sometimes you can buy a refurbished one from them for a decent price.

If five years is the lifespan of a refrigerator - we have really hit rock bottom in the world. Think of the landfill full of appliances that meet their end way before they should. My great aunt has a refrigerator and stove that are from the early 1950's and run fantastic! This is what we should be expecting from our appliances. I think that if the average lifespan of a refrigerator is only five years - I wouldn't want to get a refurbished one! Thanks.
