LCD monitors have a lot of advantages over CRT monitors.
LCD are smaller in size and weight, they are brighter and their power consumption is lower.
Consider that, about power consumption, I had a 17 inches CRT monitor and its power consumption was 100 Watt per hour, now I have a 19 inches LCD monitor and is power consumption is 40 Watt per hour.
However, LCD screens have some disadvantages: you have to use them with their maximum resolution to have a good image quality and then I think that CRT monitors have a better image quality than LCD ones.

Yes, that is the main reason that we bought our LCD. Our computer monitor was on day and night, between the 4 of us using it. We bought an LCD and had a $20 savings on our electric bill the first month.
I also love it being lightweight. Easy to move and clean behind.
We just purchased an LCD TV set a few weeks ago and I love it also. Even though the power consumption is not much of a savings, the picture is so clear and it is so easy to clean behind.
