I was born in 1961. I remember being around the age of 4 or 5 out in the backyard on a hot day. My mum had the kitchen window open and playing on the radio was "Tar and Cement" by Verdelle Smith. I still love that song and incredibly, the lyrics are so so so relevant for today.
"Where are the meadows? Tar and Cement.
Where are the lilacs? Tar and Cement.
and where is the tall grass? Tar and Cement"
This is the first song I remember. What is yours?

john denver songs are really great. among my top favorites, too. i keep some albums of his. the old black big ones which run at 33 1/3 are of not much use anymore though and i don't know as to where and how has my brother dealt with them. as for cd's, i believe i only got one of john denver's. my children bought a karaoke cd recently and they sang from it last night. nice to reminisce some old memories.

Those were the days eh. Well, the 60's for me, not so much the 50's. But I do remember hearing a lot of Frank Sinatra as a child. My mother adored the musicals on tv with Judy Garland, Doris Day, et cetera. I can still remember seeing them in black and white on the old tv set :)

Go West! by the Pet Shop Boys. Parents had it on tape or something and would always play it all day long!

The first song I remember ever hearing is 'Piano Man' by Billy Joel. My parents had (well, we still have it) this Billy Joel greatest hits tape from 1984, one year before I was born, so they've basically been playing that tape my WHOLE life. When I was very little, I though when he was signing the higher parts that it was a woman, and when he was singing the low parts it was a man. I thought there were two people singing for the longest time when I was a toddler/little kid.

the one song I remember best from my childhood has to be "Str8 Outta Compton" by N.W.A...I was like 7 or 8 years old and I remember my brothers played that one tape every single day until it broke!
