My 11 year old daughter was just put on Prozac (10 mg a day) for her Crohn's disease. She has had all the traditional meds for crohn's and supposedly the Prozac is supposed to help stomach pains. I have heard about the dangers of children being on anti-depressants. Some can cause worse depression and suicide thoughts. Anyone out there who has any info on it?? I am a concerned about it.

If you're concerned, I'd bring it up with her doctor. But 10mg is an extremely low dose. Lower than the lowest they put depressed folks on. If thatsets your mind at ease at all.

My son is also on Prozac....he takes 40 mg a day for depression...He's been on it for over a yr now and hasnt had any negative side affects at all....There are dangers according to studies, when it comes to kids and teens on anti-depressants (for whatever reason they may be on it) but the ONLY one approved for use with kids is actually Prozac...
