What would you do if a suspicious man approached you for directions?

Recently I was approached by a strange man asking me for directions. I tried to be nice and help him as best I could. He then told me I was pretty and asked me if I was married. I told him yes and he said the good ones are always taken. When I was driving away I noticed him walking in the opposite direction that I had directed him. Very creepy, I thought. Come to find out, this incident has been growing in my community among other women and even teenage girls and the exact same lines are used. Now the police are aware of it... so we'll see what happens. Would something like this put you off from helping or speaking to strangers in the future?

well if it involves more than asking directions then i am afraid i will just walk away from him. in the first place one should not really talk to strangers. a lot of people are taking advantage of other's kindness which sucks big time.

Its messed up that we cant even give people direction these days because we dont know who is just using that exscuse to hurt us or are they really lost. When someone asks me for directions unless im with my guy I will usually tell them that Im new to this town because I dont trust anyone especially if Im with my daughter.
I ALWAYS carry my mase with me just in case someone tries something stupid with me.

If i was in a public place, I might still be creeped out about it, but not as concern. Now if he approached me at night and I was very much alone I would be more cautious. It's about self confidence I believe. Men like that can sense the week women. that's who they prey on. But if you are confident, head held high, strong voice and strong body language you might even scare them away!

Yes. Trust is a hard thing to gain. I could not help someone view as strange or even a stranger when I have my kids with me. Somehow I am less weary when I am alone.i am way braver. I have turned down strangers asking for directions by pointing out them going to look in a phone book or library internet. Or I lie and tell them I am new and don't know. You can never know ones intention. How scary that must have been for you, I would have reported him right away if he asked personal qustions like that. I hope they catch him or them.

Err creepy, gosh you never can be to careful can you, stranger danger. This is exactly why I dont like my children walking the streets. They are out there and on the news just tonight they said one had moved into our area after been released from jail. They have just arrested him again for the same stuff. What do we need to do. Im glad your okay though. stay safe
