My German Shepard, Spoof, has had runny eyes for the past few days, and yesterday he sneezed like 12 times in a row. Okay, maybe it was more like 7 or 8, but it seemed like 12. Anyway, I commented on it and my family told me he had been having sneezing fits for the past couple of days. He also has been sleeping alot. He's not even 5 yet, so it's not old age. It could just be dust, or the weather change, it suddenly got cold and wet here. I guess I was just wondering if dogs get colds, I don't see why they wouldn't, but I don't know. Any suggestions on what I should do for the "Great Big Hoax"?? Maybe he'd like some chicken soup... Thanks!!

We adopted a one year old female german shepard this past winter from the humane society. She had a bad cold when we got her. She sneezed a lot and had a runny nose. They actually recommended that we allow her cold to run its course naturally instead of giving her medication. It took a couple of weeks but she did get over her cold just fine.

Spoof has had this a few times before, so I'm not in a panic- yet. I just worry about how he's feeling, since he can't really tell me, but he has a good way of showing me. I don't really want to medicate him, either. I'm going to try some Benadryl and an asprin. If it doesn't help, it won't hurt. Plus, the asprin might help with his hips. He got hit by a car a few years ago, and for the past year his hips have been bad. He has chews for that. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your information. That's what we are here for.

I think they can get colds because I have seen my dog get sick when he spend time outdoor when the temperature is down.

Hi! it could be colds, allergies or something else. Some of the signs could be the same but it would be much better if you cold bring your dog to the Vet so that he could be diagnosed and treated correctly.

It's vital that you get your dog to a Vet right away. He has a canine virus that effects the respiratory tract and it can kill him. His sleeping and perhaps loss of appetite is a sign he has a fever. Is he current on his canine innoculations?
