When ever i get a friend's request i have a habit of going the friends profile completely, and going through the blog pages or website, of my new friends request. It doesnot mean that i select my friends, but rather, i wish to know about them, rather than simply clicking the approve/deny button.Another thing is i always approve my new friends request.

same here. I look at their profile first.
Occasionally they are an obvious spammer so I ignore them but I approve 99%.
If they have made some new discussions I will try and reply to one or two as well.

I began to do it. No need to aprove milions "friends" who dont speak English, who post "discussions" just for getting refferals, who copypaste my discussions and hope that just because of my active status- they will earn fro me. Sorry, no. And i began automatically to deny people from certain countries.

Certainly ! only then can you judge whether he /she is suited to you. . After all friendship should necessarily be based on mutual interests .

I don't usually. When I see their name I just press the approve button. I see that their names are familiar and I've seen their discussion or I have participated in their discussions so I feel that I am connected to them. That is why I do not need to check on their profile.

I agree with you. I do not just approve any friend request just because they ask. As we've all found there are people out there looking for money, etc, and are using pics that aren't even them. Pretty easy to tell, I think, if you look at their profile..or if the profile is blank. So I look at the profile and I don't always approve the requests..only those that appear genuine.
