I am a violin teacher. I find that children are easyto teach when it comes to learning a musical instrument.
Has it stuck with you? Do you still play?

I played the flute from 4th grade on and loved it. I played in some musicals and such after high school. I really don't like solo playing - I'd much rather play with an orchestra. Sadly, I don't have the opportunity to do that. I do get it out once in awhile and just play around. I really wish I would have learned piano. Speaking of violin, my sons school teaches violin to ALL 1st and 2nd graders. He absolutely loved it and can't wait to continue in 2nd grade.

That's wonderful that he loves the violin. It is a great instrument. I played in the allstate orchestra. I played in church. But I most enjoy teaching a beginner.

I am one of those who is kicking herself in the hind end for giving up a golden opportunity. My grandmother was a concert pianist. She taught piano too. I had at my disposal free lessons for life. I took lessons for about 2 years and threw in the towel. Now, in my defense, I begged and begged to play something besides classical music but was never obliged that favor. I just simply lost interest. Now I would give anything to be able to play. My daugheter has taken lessons for 10 years and plays beautifully. She said that she would teach me, but it is so hard to teach an old dog new tricks! She is leaving for college in August anyway. Sigh.

Hey, thanks replying to my last two discussions. I quit early too. I wish I had taken it seriously and longer. Both my sister and I teach, and my son teaches music. It is in our genes. I enjoy it now that I am older.

On accordion. I kind of regret it now not choosing violin, but now that I am taking violin lessons now, I wonder if I have the patience for it and the adequate time to practice. I have a few decades to catch up on ...
Whether it is easier as a child I cannot say, since basically with accordion you are pushing buttons (though the bellowing can be approximate to bowing, I suppose)
I remember one day I put the accordion on and couldn't figure what was going on - the keyboard was on the left side instead of the right.
I had it on upside down.

I started playing the keyboard when I was 6. My mom's the one who taught me. And yes, I can still play it! =) but now, im prioritizing more the violin. So we could have a sort of a *duet*. Me playing the violin and my mom playing the keyboard. hehehe =)
