I can remember when I would sit in the sun all day long and not think about how burned I was getting. And I have very fair skin so I would burn every time. But it was in to have a great tan. So I laid out untill I was well done. I dont do that anymore. And besides who has that kind of time. But today I sat out for about 1/2 hour and got some color and thats it for me. Tell me do you lay in the sun just to get a tan?

Well dear so far this summer I am pretty dark. But I never just sit in the sun. I do all the yard work, which as you know can get to be a handful. I also have this kid who loves outside and to play with water. So we are outside a ton. I never just sit out in the sun. Although I thought about it the other day when I was swimming in the kiddie pool... but then I just stayed in the water and enjoyed the coolness. I can not beleive I am this dark already but I do have an olive skin tone. :)

As a teenager I was always quite brown. Now that I have been told the dangers, something we never even fathomed as kids, I definitely do not do any tanning. I also witnessed a friends mother pass away from skin cancer, caused by the sun. She was a farmer and in it daily. It was the most horrid thing to see. I can honestly say it was something out of a freak show or scary movie. For me, a darker body isn't worth it. I think SOME sun is good for you but to bake in it is simply stupid in my opinion. But to each their own. If that's your bag... have fun! LOL

I used to lay out for hours and have a great tan- now when i lay out i feel guilty like i should be doing somehting else- the only time i get to really hang in the sun is when I take the boys to my sisters pool and swim with them, since Buca is hurt we can't go now till he is better- so I am pasty white. About 8 years ago I bought a tannin canope for 100.00- and used it quite often - it kept me from burning to a crsip- now my husbadn has all kinds of crap in from of it and I can't get to it.

Nope not anymore.Like you I don't have the time even if I wanted to which I don't.But yeah when I was a teenager I did the same thing.Everybody wanted that golden California surfer girl look.I'd be out in the yard everyday all slathered up with baby oil for at least an hour.Even dyed my hair blonde to complete the look.Wanted blue contacts but my Mom had to draw the line somewhere.;-)

I do not go into the sun if I can help it. Dear, when you are older, you will have so many wrinkles. Maybe I am vain, but I am almost 60, and am told I look 40. I have no wrinkles or grey hair. I have always stayed out of the sun, except when I was a teen.

I am white. There have been lawsuits filed against me due to folks being blinded by the glare coming off my skin. The judge said I had to hand out sunglasses when I walk down the street or go to jail. *grin* I am very fair skin. When I get in the sun, I turn tomato red and blister. When the red is gone, I'm back to white. No tanning here. My arms have freckles as does my face, but the rest is white. I have to lather the sunscreen on so thick that I can hardly move my limbs due to the extra weight! Get this, we have a swimming pool! I only use the pool very early in the morning and after 5 pm !! I love overcast days (yes, I still have to put on sunscreen, but can stop at one layer!).

Wow, you're really fair skinned but tan? I never get tan, I go from white to red and back again! If I'm out in the sun for any time at all hardly, I will have a burn. Then it will peel, and afterwards I'll be ghostly again. I don't even try anymore, partially because I had a family member die of skin cancer.

I've never really been one to sit in the sun for hours at time...to be honest, I'm too much of a fidget to stay still that long...LOL

I was a sun worshipper in my youth. But not anymore. I do like to get several minutes of sun on my face every chance I get just for the vitamin D that comes from it but I don't lay out anymore.
I can remember my sisters using Crisco cooking oil on their skin to make sure that they burned when they laid out. Then all evening they would be swathing themselves with vinegar to make the pain go away. Crazy!
