I just found out that nearly half of all pregnancies are unplanned. That's kind of spooky, considering that some women drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes, not knowing they are pregnant.
And, don't even take their folic acid until it's too late. That scared me. Did you hear about this?
For me, the pregnancy started one month after I had run out of folic acid. I didn't even know that I was pregnant for an entire month, like most women.
I lived in terror for the entire nine months until my baby was born, worrying that she would be born with spinabifida.
Luckily my baby was born fine, with no ailments or side effects. But, not all babies are lucky.
I just wish I'd been better able to prepare myself.
As moms we know that every minute counts when it comes to pregnancy.
The problems arise because you just don't know you're pregnant until it's too late to change health habits or take the proper vitamins.
And, then you don't get a second chance.
How can we better prepare ourselves and our bodies for pregnancy, for the healthiest babies?
Any tips?

i find this is scary with young girls who have no clue that they could get pregnant...a friend of ours used to teach grades 6.7 & 8 in a poorer section of our city and it was nothing to see 2 or 3 girls pregnant EACH year! and whats sad is most of these kids have no idea how to prepare their body or take care of the baby once its born.

Hmm... unplanned pregnancies huh Gee I never worried about that
Think it happened 3 times to me LOL Yup the reason I got married in the first place (NOT)
I smoked during 2 pregancies and yes had a few drinks too Sometimes a few too many No I was not a drunk
What does folic acid have to do with getting pregnant? Oh yes spina bifida had to read further
Prepare yourself for pregancy Yikes I musta lived the dark ages then
In prepartaion for a baby meant buying a crib, or pulling out a dresser drawer and emptying it
diapers, clothes, and anything else a new born needs
All my boys were healthy as a horse My goodness the 2nd one weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs.
They are smart as whip and active, healthy adults now.
I think new generation worries too much about everything today
Sorry don't mean to be critical but if you maintain a decent diet during pregnancy you should be fine.
