Any Trekkies among us? My mum loves Star Trek, I was made to watch it as a kid, and I'm not that keen on it! Do you want to "boldly go where no man has gone before", (I think that is how it goes).

I certainly don't but the show did. Star Trek established anumber of firsts on network TV. First black cast regular treated as equal, female officers, asian oficers, first interacial kiss. The show was a true groundbreaker in many ways, a tribute to Roddenberry's open mind. To think the idiot studio execs asked him to "get rid o the guy with the ears" is still one of the funniest bits of TV trivia.
