I just think that is so crazy, not wanting kids to celebrate Halloween. But I guess, to each his/her own. I celebrate it, and I will be taking my daughter trick or treating this year for the first time.

Actually halloween is not a tradition in Brazil. I know and wanted to dicuss it here because, as an English teatcher working for a private language school, I had to participate together with my students to a halloween party. As a matter of fact, the celebration was held yesterday an it was a success.

Yes Halloween is my favorite holiday. It is a time when everyone can be any one or anything they ever wanted to be, when fun and fantasy meet, when the spirtual world and the physcial world collide. I have always loved Halloween more then any other holiday, even when my father felt the same way as your friends mother. I will be dressing up and taking my kids out trick or treating this year just like I do every year. Here is to every one who will go out and enjoy this fun filled and spirtual night, Happy Halloween

The way you described halloween celebration seems like talking about our carnival, the difference is that "carnaval" lasts more than a week, in February, and besides dressing up, people just go crazy dancing on the streets and clubs and promoting huge costume parades. Happy halloween, by the way.

I personally don't enjoy Halloween. I could live without it.

Halloween is our favourite holiday! That's odd that your friend's mom thinks it's evil since the origin of the holiday is a night to remember loved ones that have passed away. Commercialism has taken Halloween to a new level and it's meshes with other traditions but at it's heart it's about remembering.
