People have very interesting perceptions when it comes the the subject of "hacking". Depending on who you ask, you will get some quite different interpretations of what hacking actually is. So I thought I would start off this discussion in attempt to see what people think counts as hacking and what it entails.
I'll start with my opinions ;)
Hacking:-
Generally speaking, its the process of mastering of something and using it beyond its original intention.
In terms of infosec, hacking is the ability to bypass certain limitations of a system. That limitation could be access restriction (breaking authentication), privilege escalation (breaching authorisation) or an encryption system etc.
Script kiddies:-
A negative term to refer to someone that has no intention of mastering a subject, instead preferring to use the knowledge and effort of other people without actually knowing what they are doing or why.
N00b:-
In terms of hacking, this would simply be someone new to security, but is willing to learn the technology, not just the tools.

script kiddies use the already available tools and exploit a system
they are not real coders, they don't have the knowledge too
real hackers create their own tools
they understand the working of the system and write codes
so that the system can be exploited
