Was channel 4 right to get rid of Emily?

Emily evicted from BB - Emily in the hot seat!!
June 8, 2007 10:38am CST
Channel 4 evicted Emily a student from Bristol for offensive racist remark to fellow housemate Charley. Was this purely becausue of the outrage caused in the celbrity Big Brother show earlier in the year or do you think the program producers thought they would increase the ratings by throwing her out....?? is there an ulterior motive in Big Brother producers apparent intolerance of offensive language. They showed the incident again and had a full blown program where people had to give their views on the incident.. seems they are milking it!! What do you think...

personally i have only watched the first night of BB this year, but i have seen the eviction of emily on the news. i think that BB are trying not to offend like they did with the celebrity version, jade goody (not a celeb if you ask me) was extremely racist and BB did nothing to combat thins. emily is just the fall guy for BBs short commings from the last show, she really shouldn't have been calling anyone the N word especially on national tv, but she is just getting it because of past events. the BB producers just want to look good...

yes i think you are right... the suits at BB are conscious that Channel 4 is in danger of losing its licence to broadcast if it is not careful... what a great loss that would be .. !!LOL

I don't think that they evicted her for ratings. Because they would actually get WAY more ratings by keeping her on the show. With all the tension in the house. Viewers wanting to know what's going to happen next, etc. I think they did it for moral reasons and for their reputation. It would make them look bad if they left her on there.

If they didn't do anything they'd be getting called or worse getting stopped/ called for channel four to loose their licence. Any way you look at it they can't win but they did right. If you watch it you can clearly see she meant it in away to hurt the person she was talking to. Normally someone who's joking doesn't pull a serious face and they will keep eye contact not act like she HATES the person which she looked like. Lastly bravo BB, ~Joey

I think they messed up. From what I've understood she was honestly joking even if it was in very bad taste. What happened in the celebrity BB was much much worse, yet no-one was evicted. I think Emily was just the scapegoat so Channel 4 could show the whole world that they don't tolerate racism, but they just pushed it too far. It's glaringly obvious why they did this and it's because of damage control. Shame they didn't go after the true racist people though, celebrities or not.

Gosh, it doesn't half look like C4 is trying to prove how much it DOESN'T tolerate racism, but they have misfired and I think they look silly. Rather than wait until such a time as someone is actually being racist and act they have clutched at straws with the first time anyone said a bad word. If BB8 wasn't cr@p enough so far they have to go and do this? Simon. www.yammbq.blogspot.com
