isiah washingtons contract was not renewed. How can they let him go. Most of the story lines had him in it. Now with this happening, i wonder if "georg" will be back. Isiah said something stupid about gays but he did appologize. Freedom of speech has gone to sh*t in this country.

Alot of people have said things that are just as ignorant as what Isiah said and haven't lost their jobs. He and Cristina were starting to get boring anyway. Although it might have been fun to see how they dealt with the fallout from the aborted wedding.
If George goes to another hospital to redo his internship, how much story will he get except trying to get Callie pregnant?

You have to admit that they made it pretty easy for Burke to leave at the end of last season.... I mean with Christina coming home and all his stuff was gone. Also, George just met Meridith's sister! Of course he has to stay and redue his internship now!!!!

freedom of speech has nothing to do with this. ABC has every right to rid itself of an employee who make disparaging remarks about a coworker if it wants to. also ABC has a right to expect employees not to act like jerks in the workplace. Washington has the freedom to say what he wants, and he has the right to pay the price for being who he is.
BTW freedom of speech applies to the government.

I think Isiah made a big mistake initially calling T.R. what he did on the set, but then trying to deny it, by saying the word again, on tv, well that is just totally uncalled for. I don't think he should have been fired for it though. Isiah is an amazing actor, and I'm going to miss seeing him on Grey's.

Freedom of speech is not meant to openly demean other people. What he said and in the context of how he said it was not his "opinion", but a
very negative slur on gay people. Having a widely known and well-liked celebrity on a hit TV show make a negative comment like he did does a lot of damage that can't be repaired with a simple apology (which could be construed as mere damage control). Everyone says stupid things they wish they could take back, but when you are in the public eye (and we've seen it break careers before) he should have been more aware. I'm not totally sure that is why they haven't renewed his contract though. I really like him on the show. This is just unfortunate all the way around.

Definitly agree with you on this one. He did apologize, but I understand that ABC didn't want the bad press. I'm just curious to see who they will get to fill in the story lines. He was a major part of the show.

Here's a link to story I found on it too:

Last I heard, there was nothing definite about "George's" contract being renewed. Since they fired Washington, makes me think George will be back.

Is this true? I just saw an entertainment tonight and they said that the whole cast would be back. Maybe I misunderstood what they were saying!
