how do you respond to discussions

Hi again everyone! I just noticed that most discussion subjects are straightforward that you can post your response right away. I'm saying most because I also see discussion subjects that seem to be very complex. In responding to a post, do you read the details of the post or you just read the subject and respond to it right away? And do you also read the responses before responding? For me, as much as possible I want to read the details first and first few responses before I make my own response, especially if I find the topic very interesting. Do you feel that reading the details and the responses are consuming much of your time?

I find myself hitting the "Discussions with No Responses" button for a number of reasons.
1) It can just read the topic subject and message a reply to just that if I feel like I have enough to say about it.
2) I know what it's like to have discussions out there that fall flat, even when well thought out, so I want to give other discussions a chance to bloom.
3) I tend to like seeing if there are comments to my responses, which typically will happen if you are earlier in the discussion, which may lead me to contribute more, etc, etc.

me too! I do really like to see if there are comments on my response because that would mean that the person posting the discussion is really checking on his/her topic and had really thought about it not just for the sake of discussion. And like you, I would prefer replying to discussions first because it would be easier to check for my responses for comments. Thanks pallidyne! :)

well, it depends on the title of what the discussions all about.. sometimes, the title or subject says it all but when i see that it includes something more or long details,i read them before responding but sometimes, i'm too lazy to read it that's why i take it from the subject of the discussion itself..lol..

Well said pinks0da , I see many people just reading the suject and starting their responses. This can be harmful because people would have asked specific question in there discussion whch could not be replied unless the discussion it read completely. This may gain him negative remarks when people read their posts. SO I read the discussion completely before responding to the discussion. But I most of the time wont read other responses. I feel I will lose the originality of my thoughts. So I rather read them after responding to the topic. I try to read the best responses that people get , to see how they write artfully. It is time comsuming , But that what will ultimately help you earn rating and get you recognised by others.

I Always read the whole post before posting. Not all the responses I have to admit.
I do not reply to discussions that i just have to read the subject coz they are usually not discussions, they are just a simple question that probably is breaking the guidelines.

I go through the discussion topics. If i come across any topics about which i have any idea or any experience, i have come through, then i reply to the discussion. If i dont understand the topic or subject inside it, i will not answer the discussion.

Differently to each one.
Sometimes I'm funny (well try to be) other times I'm serious or just normal.
Generally answer depending on what the original poster is like as sometimes it's bad to joke with someone who acts serious lol
I'm always a time and place sort of person,

most of time its happens wid me also...dat after reading the topic...u can easily justify dats wats in the topic actully...or wats the given discussion is all about.....
n after that u cn easily respond to dat.....
but surely in this topic i hav to read the wholt write up which u hav written.....
dont think dat reading the details n then respon consume time....but its only giv u the full idea of what the topic is bout......

I just read the beginning of the post and then start writing. No sense in reading through the rest because chances are what you say has already been said. Reading it all(with me anyways) makes me feel like I don't have anything else to contribute to the discussion.

I feel that a person should read the full context/message before responding to it. Especially when it is very interesting, a person should (or a person like me will) read it again and again. When you read more, you come to know more and ur knowledge increases.
Every person has their own way of doing things, but before doing anything one should have clear knowledge about it.
I think reading a text can never be time consuming. Whether the text it boring or interesting, it's always that ur knowledge increases. Therefore reading the details or the responses are not much time consuming.
