I've been job hunting and having no training or background in nursing i've noticed massive amounts of jobs available in that field i think thats why people tend to take up nursing

uhm, because nurses are in demand abroad. And students are just taking their chances...they want to work on other countries to earn bigger, like you said.

Having been a nurse for almost 27 years the trends and reasons for entering the profession have certainly changed. I agree that it seems that nowadays people believe it's a somewhat easy way to earn a decent income. Most families are now two income families and it does allow you to have a much more flexible schedule opposed to a 9-5 job. Conversely, it does most often involve weekends unless you are in an office type setting. That said, couples with children can share child care responsibilities whereas one works in the day and the spouse works at night. Thus no or minimal childcare expenses are incurred. I entered the profession because I LOVE what I do...and I still do. I knew from the time I was a little girl I wanted to be a nurse. Money didn't really play a role in choosing. It's an easy job to get burn-out and I think the one's who choose it without their heart and interests really in it regret it later.
