Have you ever put your child on a plane alone?

I just put my 17 year old son on a plane for the second time by himself. I know he is a responsible young man now and that everything will be just fine, that he is almost an adult and that statistically flying is safer than driving. I still feel sick inside. He loves to fly and has the other half of his family to visit in another state. I wonder if this feeling lessens or goes away after your child has been on a few more flights?

I was allowed to fly alone at 12. You are his mom, so of course you worry. I think he is old enough. I would have problems allowing my ten and five year olds to go alone. If it was a single flight with no stopovers and the airline was supervsing, checking id's etc. I think I would let the 10 year old go. Airlines do have a system where the child is not released until the specified person WITH proper photo i.d comes to get them.

My dear friend, your son travel again? You know my story about my son's flaying....I let him travel with airplane alone when he was 8 years old.I was worried so much but I thing more because you would be 1 month far from me than the travel.I met the air hostess before he get the airplane and really they give very good care when a child travel alone(of course yours is a young boy). Also i trust very much the airplane travels than cars's.If he will need travel by car for 5-6 hour without me I'll worry much more. But as I told you these bad felling was more because I was staying away from him for so long. I hope your son had a very good fly and enjoy him time with him family there. PS:I hope you are better too......I really missed you.Hugs.

He made it to L.A. just fine and is safe and sound with his Aunt and future Uncle :) He was all excited as they were on their way to Hollywood while we were talking on the phone.

They are very helpful even if your child is older. When my son had to switch planes in Detroit, they made sure he got to where he needed to be for the next plane.

I remember my mom let me travel alone when i was a teener. I don't know the reasons why she'd let that but what i remember is the fear of not having someone by my side. NOt that i'm afraid of it but being alone travelling. (",)

He is a very independent boy and really enjoys flying. :) I'm the one who has the fear problem.

I don't put my children on a plane alone. They don't have anywhere that warrants them to travel alone. I went on a plane alone twice. Once to go to Las Vegas and once to go to Los Angeles. It was within six weeks of each other. I was like twelve years old when I flew. I didn't have any body bother me either.

My son was 16 the first time he flew to his father's state. Before that, his father would drive the 14 hours here and 14 hours back to take him for summer visits. It was really hard to put him on a plane but it turned out that he just loved it.
