Hi, I am a math teacher, I write books for math grades three to twelve and I have a math site with about 30,000 visitors per month. I would like to conduct a survey to find out what teachers consider to be difficult math topics = either to teach or in terms of students' comprehension. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Yes, one of the reasons why students find algebra difficult could be that their arithmetic foundation is not strong enough. Thanks.

As per my observations, students can be divided into two broad categories: those who quickly understand maths and those who do not. For the former category nothings is difficult in maths. And for the later, the whole mathematics is a nightmare. They may even find difficulty in subtracting two no. So, it is difficult to say you which area is more difficult. Students who lack imagination, feel Geometry as the most difficult. Trignometry is another area that most students fear of. In Algebra, many students find troubles with division (especially when fraction is used)

I've also observed that some students can catch on much quicker than others, if only we know why. Well as a teacher and writer, I'm trying to figure out how the students think and maybe help those who might not see it so easily. Thanks for your observations on geometry, trig and algebra.

I find calculus a bit complicated. Complexities are almost found in this subject because it uses combinations of some other math lessons.
