Here's the trick, don't let anyone know that your are giving up. If your serious, confide in yourself, then you don't have to prove it to anyone. I have given up myself, the way i did it was i turned the desire to want to smoke against itself. I know it sounds wierd but, if you recognise the sensation, and identify that feeling, you can say to yourself i will pass on this one. The feeling will come back again, but at least you stopped once. The more you consciously take control over your feelings the more stronger you will becomes. Try not to give up all at once, after all when you started smoking wasn't it a gradual process? Also tell your body what your intentions are. It has ears and will hear you. Good Luck

Thanks, that was fantastic advice, really appreciate your input... It also sounds acheivable. I keep telling everyone I'm giving up, when I think that really, the only person I need to be telling, is myself. Because I'm the only one that it doesnt seem to be getting through to.

Yes I've been smoking for like 25 years or so. It's really hard to quit. I've tried several times. What I was able to do was make myself only smoke outside. I don't smoke in my house or van. I've gone from a full pack plus to about half a pack. I live in Canada, it's really cold to out at 6 AM when it's 20 below - lol

I love smoking and I also don't like it! I am not quite to the point of saying: I hate it, but I don't like the way I smell to non smokers! Mom says I smell like an old ash tray, no matter what I do, and I don't like the way I feel in the morning: Coughing, nasty taste in my mouth, (can't wait to jump out of bed and brush my teeth)! And that heaviness in my chest after I smoke too much! Not to mention the cost: Mine costs $5.50 a pack now! But even as I type this, I am lighting up another one! Do you think I am hooked????? Ha ha ha ha!!!!!

Nope! I have been smoke free for over four years! It was so hard to quit, but once I did I knew that I would never go back to smoking.

I wish that I did. All I can tell you is that I quit cold turkey and that I did not use any substitutes. I did it because of my child and the new one that was on the way. It is hard to find the right motivation, but once you do I am sure there will be no stopping you! Good Luck!

Well the one thing I know that makes a huge difference is you have to WANT to quit. I know it sounds kinda stupid but it is true. I found that with my experiences in trying to quit that if someone pressured me or I felt like I didn't want to quit it got in the way with my goal. I also would suggest for some people to try Zyban. It doesn't work for everyone and it is expensive though as most insurances won't cover it. But it is suppose to help with the cravings.
Also when you start to quit and you feel like you have a craving to smoke put your mind on something else or do something else to occupy you and you may find that you will look back and realize that you got over the craving.
You honestly have to take it minute by minute. And the hour by hour and so on...
And thanks for the congrats by the way!!

Hey Princess, sounds like your having a bad run? I hope all works out good for you, and i hope mylot pays off for you too. Take it easy on the ciggies though, not a good option. Breathing exercises are excellent. Especially to calm the nerves, meditation or yoga?

Yes..I smoke...After 10 years of being quit. I also have a whole lot of other addictive issues as well. Sometimes it really sucks! Wish I could break free.....not sure if I ever will.
And yes, I know how bad it is and that I should be ashamed of myself for hurting my body and those around me. I know all that it my head...it's somewhere down deep that I can't seem to get through!!!
