Do you privatize your MySpace page?

myspace drama - two faced

I didn't when I first signed up, and it's not now, I just changed it to where you have to know my last name or email addy in order to ask to add me. I wonder why a lot of people make their page private. If you have something on there that needs to be hidden, why post it at all? Aren't you afraid the person you're trying to hide it from will somehow get in there anyway? Just curious.

I have my myspace on private because my husband threw a fit about it & the only way that I could make him shut up was to privitize it & show him that no one could see it unless they were on my friends, & I only have people that I personally know, such as friends & relatives that live out of state/country & such (we use myspace to keep in touch) on my friends.

That reason makes sense, more so than what I've run into, which is people trying to get away with posting derogatory remarks about others, then privatizing it thinking it will keep them out of hot water. Thanks for responding!

I don't privatize my myspace either. It's so that my friends will know how to look for me and how to add me. I think privatize is for those whom want to have their own private group of people. Yes, it's actually depends on the needs. And I believe everyone has their own needs and wants. ^_^

I had my public for a good year or so until the guy i was dating ex-wife found me and started making trouble for me and her ex. I just felt that if i made it private then she couldn't try to start anything anymore. I also blocked her so she couldnt message me but it just felt better making it private. I have a pic of my as my default so if anyone was trying to find me they could.

Thanks for responding dodgersangel. I can understand why you would privatize your page then. Ex's can cause so much trouble! The only bad thing is, she probably thinks you have something to hide now that you've set yours to private. Not that it should matter!

She can think I have something to hide all she wants. Puts a smile on my face to make her wonder what I have to hide if anything.

There are just certain people that I don't want to be able to readily view my page and I do put personal things on there that I don't want just anyone seeing. Also it really cuts down on spammers and those people trying to hit on me. That is why I have my myspace page set to private. Why did you change yours?

Mine isn't private. Anyone can view it, I just can't get add requests from just anyone. I changed the way I had to be asked to be added because of spammers, but my information on my page is still viewable by everyone. Thanks for responding!

I haven't made my page private. I really don't care if people see it because I really don't have anything too incriminating on it. I may change my mind though when I start job searching.

No, my page isn't privatized. I do have comments set where I need to approve what is posted. I really haven't had any problems with people at myspace being out of the way with me. I mostly joined because my teen wanted me to join and be in his friends list. I rarely check the site as I have too many other things that interest me more.

Thanks for responding! I can understand the comments approval. You never know what someone else is going to post! lol

I don't see the point for someone my age - I feel if people want to lurk then do it - it only shows that I am living MY life and having fun while their obsessed with mine. Also why should I hide I think it defeats the purpose of myspace. I have an incredible tracker so I am able to see everyone that looks at my page. Thats how I found out my ex's new girlfriend was stalking me =) lol

Exactly Linzelite! Why hide? Generally when you're hiding it's because you HAVE something to hide. Excellent response! Thanks.

Mine used to be public but there are way too many psycho people out there. If someone wants to see my page they have to be a friend, I think that's more than fair. Some people have private pages because of their content, if its anything "adult" or questionable, there's less of a chance of someone reporting it to MySpace.

Thanks for responding. I'm sure there are a lot of good reasons for making your page private, I've just run into some more untoward ones is all. :)

NO I don't privatize my myspace, because I love adding new making and adding new friends. There are alot of my friends & family scattered in all parts of the world, if I privatize my site then it is most likely that I wouldn't be able to add them nonetheless keep in contact:)

I agree, my profile isn't private. I dont put personal things on my page, and my pictures are private, to where you have to be my friend to see them.

i put my profile on profile because i think it's safer because hackers can find your password sometime when it's not private it happened to my twice so now i only put it on private
