Was just wondering if anyone here has used Black Cohosh for those horrible hot flashes us 'mature' women get!! I just started having them a few months ago and they are escalating to a point where I am uncomfortable at work and am not sleeping well. I have heard about Black Cohosh working for that, so I bought some, I have only been taking it 2 days, so I don't know if it's working or not. Anyone here have an experience good or bad with BC and. . . are there any others who would be willing to give me some tips on getting through menopause WITHOUT going on Estrogen pills??? Help . . . man, I'm sweatin', it's HOT in here!!LOL!!

I don't know if Black Cohosh is necessarily an answer though...there this website about the potential dangers of it

I've been extremely lucky...I haven't had problems--good genes?? And I wouldn't touch Hormonal Replacement therapy with a ten foot pole..what? And risk cancer later?
Years ago, this woman described her ordeal with the hot flashes and I thought she was kidding me...I mean I couldn't imagine it being THAT bad--she said her husband thought she was out of her mind cause it could be in the middle of winter and she wanted the air conditioning on, take off her clothes and was running around like a lunatic...Ah--but then I experienced it...OMG--you want to crawl out of your own skin...LOL--but it seemed I only had the drenching sweats and hot flashes for a grand total of one night...yup--oh don't you just hate me...LOL--I have no idea what I'm doing RIGHT that I haven't had a symptom since...All I know that I do take a multi-vitamin pill, extra Vitamin-C, garlic pills, echinacea and fish oil pills...could it be that combo I wonder??

I had a friend who sailed through menopause using black cohosh. This lady used herbal remedies for everything, and always had good luck. I decided to give the black cohosh a try. After 1 week of taking it, my blood pressure shot up like crazy!! I discontinued the black cohosh and it came right down. I guess it didn't agreee with me! Since then, I have just sweated it out (no pun intended).

I better get my BP checked! I have always had really good BP and my pulse rate is extremely low. Last time my resting pulse was checked it was 44. I see my doc on Thursday so she'll let me know if I need to stop it or not.
This is a fun season of life isn't it? Always learning.

I don't know from personal experience, but my ex-MIL swore by black cohosh. She said ti worked better than any hormone pills you could take. My suggestion is to talk to your doctor before taking an herbal remedy as they react different in each person and may react with medicines. Your doctor may also have another alternative for you to try - from what I understand intaking soy helps out a lot as well.

I've heard about soy helping too. So far, it seems like the Black Cohosh is helping... not making them disappear by all means, but I AM sweating less at night and they are less frequent during the day! Hooray!
