Pls. shed light about colon cancer!!!

I am very afraid of colon cancer. I feel that I am at high risk since I have relatives from both of my parents side who are either afflicted with it or died from it. My uncle on my dad's side passed away last October because of colon cancer. Another uncle from my mom's side is undergoing chemotheraphy because of it. What causes colon cancer? What triggers it?
